Bergerac Schools and rental

Hello! My family and I are planning to move to Bergerac in a few months. Our 14 year old daughter speaks French but has been at an English school in Canada for the past 4 years. We were wondering if anyone had any advice on a school in or around Bergerac that is welcoming and helpful to foreign students? We would also be looking to rent for a few months while we visit houses to buy. Any help with either schools or rentals would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello, probably the most helpful school in Bergerac for your daughter would be Ste Marthe-St Front, it is a private college-lycée. Otherwise there are 3 public colleges but I don’t think they are going to be as supportive. You can send me a pm if you have more specific questions.

Rentals will be difficult s foreigners with no track record in France unless you are coming for a CDI job and will have an employment contract.

You will need to look at Garantme and similar to get some insurance that landlords might recognise. But even so it could be hard to rent through a normal french agency so may have to focus on looking at site that cater for foreigners, like this below, of getting a three month rental (the max allowed) of a gite or holiday cottage.

Can you not rent one AirBnB for three months then move to a different one for a further three months?

3 months is a bit tight to find and complete on a purchase, but like the OP I want to find the right property to buy (and also of course will need a French address for my visa application).

(welcome to the forum, @massartemma ! )

It would be tight but just about possible- we love a challenge!!

Yes but I’d rather have the wiggle room, instead of feeling pressured to buy somewhere in a hurry.

But hopefully it’s no big deal to just move rentals after 3 months.

In reality, just sign another contract (or ask nicely for an extension )

Of course, the 3 months is per property. There are other options than Air as well! It is not the on,y place to find rentals, just often the most expensive.

VG thank you! Yes I realise that AirBnB is one of many options - doing a deal direct with a gite owner probably being the best of all!

Hi Vero!
Thank you so much for your reply! I will look into that school! We are hoping for a school that will be patient while she adapts! It’s a huge adjustment.
Do you live in Bergerac? Do you like it? We visited a few areas and it seems like the perfect size town for us and close to Bordeaux.
We are excited

Thank you so much for taking the time to help us!

Thank you very much! We have thought about Airbnb and think it will most likely be the best option. Thank you

Welcome. I agree with Vero’s school suggestion (all being well my ‘baby’ boy will be going there next year). We live in a village 20/25 minutes out of town.

Hello! Thank you! It’s our biggest concern with the move! I will try contacting them soon. Our daughter was born in France but has spent the past 4 years in an English speaking Canadian school. We are hoping for a school which will help her adapt smoothly back into the French system. May I ask how old your “baby boy” is? Thank you for replying- helps to know there is support out there!

He is 10, so not very baby! And the size (literally clothes wise) of a 14 year old.

We went to the open day last weekend and all the staff seemed lovely. They also have an arrangement where the kids can do extra study online a get a US high school diploma as well.
