Best Place(s) To Buy Small Electronics/Electrics

Bonjour all! I can see that my local establishments have some small “appliances”, but not a huge selection. Amazon France is, TBH, sadly lacking versus the US version. Not a complaint, just an observation, and it makes sense. Plus, there is no WalMart to push them price-wise.

Temu?

What are good online outlets to buys things such as these? Md’A

What sort of small electrical stuff are you looking for?

I have a growing list, but for starters: Instant Pot, ink jet printer, air fryer

Given the amount of printing you’ll end up doing to build your various dossiers, it might be worth thinking about a laser printer. It could work out cheaper in the long run

My personal ethics mean I tend to buy from real shops, and preferably local ones. I am lucky enough not to fret over €5 extra.

So in our tiny town we have a électroménager shop run by mother and son who sell air fryers to curling tongs. The great advantage is the after sales service. Our cooker with electric oven went wrong the day before christmas and Hervé came out to fix it. Amazon can’t beat that in my book.

If not I go to Darty, which has all the things you list.

Temu is a no-no for me, as is Amazon

I will check out Darty, thank you. I also am not a fan of Amazon or Temu.

…you could also try Boulanger. https://www.boulanger.com/magasins/search

I’m in the same boat as @JaneJones on avoiding online cheap shyte. (excuse my Scottish…)…

Excellent! TY family, once again!

After being here two months I pretty much just order from Amazon. Local stores don’t want to give refunds even when item was sold broken. It is just not worth the hassle to argue with them when I can just print a return label and mail it across the street.

I have tried to give Jeff Bezos zero of my monies since the start of the year. So far, I’ve saved a LOT of useless spending!

When buying most things, we do our research first and then make our choice. Stuart and I buy a lot from Amazon because of their good returns policy as well as competitive pricing, and also have you tried www.manomano.fr - they have some good bargains but you have to pay for delivery on most items - some items are free delivery. I wouldn’t touch Darty with a barge-pole. Their customer service (at our local store in Parthenay) is non existent but we also buy from the large supermarkets like HyperU (maybe not in your area) or Leclerc. What about Intermarche, Lidl (online) or Auchan.

But is it cheap(er?), I bought a hot water heater from Leroy-Merlin, but due to my low ceilings and low pitched roof, it had to be a particular size. The one I wanted was 60 litres and I knew would fit, but the one they had was way up in the air and the only one in reach was only 30 litres.

So I called for an assistant and he gave me a chit for the warehouse on payment of the cost, €165. I went to the warehouse entrance and waited 20 minutes in a queue as the one man on duty sorted everyone before me. Then another 10 or 15 minutes before he delivered the item I wanted, except he didn’t, the one he gave me was only 30 litres, for the same price, the one I could reach for myself in the shop but didn’t want. I told him and he said the one I wanted was out of stock, except for the one high up in the store.

I gave up, a 2 hour round trip, an hour and a half hanging around and I ended up with a smaller heater. That was in 2015, ok it is still working but I do have to be rapid in the shower if I don’t want a cold one.

For about €200 now, probably less then, I could have had the one I wanted from Amazon, delivered to the door with a refusal or replacement no questions asked if I wasn’t happy.

Amazon for me everyday, and certainly not cheaper all things considered.

I bought some double glazed windows from Leroy, on offer, so had to wait at checkout for half an hour to pay because no-one had bothered to alter the price on their bloody computer.

A hedge trimmer, long reach, but the only one left was on display on high. They fetched it down for me but said because the packaging and the documents were in the warehouse they would have to send them on. I gave them my address, this was 5 years ago, still waiting.

I don’t care which billionaire gets my money, all I want is good quality and good service. Can’t get it any other way.

For that kind of smaller stuff that you can pick up yourself, check to see if there is an Electro Depot around. I’m afraid there is no better online alternative to Amazon. As mentioned above, all of the larger hypermarches like Eleclerc, Auchan will have smaller and larger appliances.

If not a laser printer, look at an Epson ecotank , no more (expensive) ink cartridges

When we arrived 2 years ago I bought a used Epson XP-2100 because it used cheap cartridges that Action sells for 10 euros. We came close to wearing it out printing for the bureaucrats, but we finally gave it a rest and then it clogged up. I replaced it with a laser. Probably best to start with a laser as inkjets are just a way to get you to buy expensive ink.

Darty, But, Manomano. E.Leclerc have electromenager and IT stores in Autun on the same estate as the main hypermarche. Some supermarkets may also sell some of those items in-store at a discount. There are also cheapie shops that sell electrical items like Action and GIVI, though there’s probably a certain amount of ‘buyer beware’ with very cheap electricals.

If you’re near a city then I’d look for an out-of-town retail estate and see if there’s stores on that which can supply the various things you need.

The official summer sales are coming up in a few weeks. That kind of stuff is often on sale.

And a scanner, if you haven’t one already.

We’ve found Darty very good. Also our local Pro & Cie, who matched an online price without our asking.

Both delivered free.

If you know the make and model you could also try ebay. I buy quite a few little electro items from ebay.de (german site). Prices are good, and delivery is usually quick.
