any recommendations for 2 adults and 2 kids? best places to spend 3 nights?
What do you want to do? And how far? In one direction is Burgundy and cute villages, in another is the high Jura with pastures full of cows and spring flowers, or head to the Haute Savoie and the poshness of Annecy. Or weird things like the Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval.
We took our kids to Vaison la Romain It has a Roman amphitheatre and a museum. Our two boys went dressed in Roman costumes and we made a film.
That’s south of Lyon
We had so much fun in the old town that we never even made it to the Roman sites! Next time.
But it’s 200km from Lyon…
Is it? Oops. That had slipped from my memory. So sorry.
Surely, the question in return must be : what are you interested in as a family?
If you like rolling hills, wine and pretty stone built villages, there’s tge Beaujolais to the west and north-west.
To the south, the Parc du Pilat, with its northern Rhone Valley wines and steep slopes.
To the north, les Dombes, and the medieval village of Peyrouges.
To the north-east, the limestone edges, valleys and rivers of the Ain and the Jura.
To the east, Grenoble and the Vercors.
Take your pick.
