Just read that there are huge changes to the hours. Tempo users are unaffected.
This has a good summary:

If I’ve understood correctly, this only applies to those whose current Heures Creuses are all night.
At present ours are split 12:30 (ish) midday for two hours plus some time over night. Presumably ours won’t change that much (maybe less at night).
I think that your daytime hours may extend along with others who (like me) only currently get the lower rate overnight. It appears to be an attempt to get us all to use the energy being produced by solar generation in the summer etc rather than having to ‘turn off’ that generation and pay the producers for not actually providing it (as they do in the UK which is why the electricity prices are so high, and increasing). As the information stated, it will vary by region, to smooth consumption.
I did away with that system of HC/HP as it was not advantageous to me any more and actually costing more being on my own and having an air to air system rather than the standard chauffe-eau.
I am seriously thinking of coming out of Tempo and going back to naked vanilla rate.
Last price rise Tempo users got hit harder than other tariffs - delberately I saw an official comment quoted that they were going to do this. I found that slightly offensive after 2 years of widespread campaigns to get people to switch to it as it was cheaper.
Very little of my bill is actual consumption it’s over 2/3rds fixed monthly charges and tax. And a part of it even has TVA on top of another tax.
At least the UK is now offering a better deal for low users by removing the standing charge and combining that with a slightly higher cost for units consumed.
If I could dump EDF and move to such a rate I would.
Tempo rates all went down 01/08.
I thought the red one went up?
Oh yeah I think it did!
Red went down about 1.2c/kWh
Oh, how strange. Thanks Mark. I wonder what I was reading then?
I am confused how Tempo is not affected ? Surely as it has low rares / high rates it would change.
Tbh we are on Tempo and our furst bill since the increase has shot up. I thought that even though the tax increased there was a reduction on either the standing charge or the rates to balance it out. Bill for july / Aug is twice what it was last year same period.
We are not using any extra items , in fact heating/ hot water is oil fuel, cooking is gas. So only items using electric are lights , fridge freezer, washing machine and microwave.
Think i will be shopping around.
I don’t know but that is how it is. No change to Tempo hours, change to HC/HP plan hours.
I think that would be smart. With so much in your house not using electric I can’t see how tempo would financially work in your favour.
The electricity thing makes my head hurt. It’s an issue I’ve been meaning to address and by quincyquonce [S. Milligan] I got a billy doo just now from ‘Hellowatt’ comparison site.
I’m on my own and all electric. The killer, when I went from flat rate to Tempo, which I was told by EDF wa a better deal for me, was/is the Jours Rouges. Sheer banditry, in my opinion. All I can do, if the idea is to get people to use less, is turn everything off, which is what I did. With some Js Rgs being 3 days running, life was miserably cold.
If I can possibly avoid it, I don’t want to go thru’ that again.
For anyone else on their own and all electric [or anyone with a sound understanding of the options] , what would you recommend?
From reading the FAQs from the EDF website, I see that everyone on the HP/HC tariff will still receive at least 5 continuous hours of HC during the night. Each person will receive at least 1 month’s notice of the changes to the HC hours from their supplier.
The changes will start to be implemented on 1st Nov 2025 but will be spread out over a period of time, with full implementation not expected to be complete until the end of 2027. So it could be quite a while yet before the changes affect someone currently on the HP/HC arrangement.
The tempo standing charges went up, the electricity charges went down. Timing unchanged..
