It would seem that Sir Keir has lost sight of which country struck the first blow in this conflict.
Also raises the question as to why the US wishes to use UK bases when they already have two carrier groups and numerous military land bases in the Middle East.
David Allen Green.
âWe cannot say that the United Statesâ actions are against international law, but we condemn Iranâs retaliatory actions as against international law,â is neither a coherent nor a compelling position.
As such, the use of a phrase like âagainst international lawâ as a self-serving or partisan rhetorical device means international law can never get traction as a system of universal standards.
..and Lord Peter Ricketts.
âIf youâre going to attack a country you have to show it is in self-defence and that there is some kind of imminent threat. You canât make that case hereâŚAn indifference to international law is dangerous.â
I think heâs between a rock and a hard place.
He took the position that he was not going to participate in the attacks and, now that Iran is attacking neighbouring countries (including those with British populations and military presence), heâs agreed to support strikes against Iranâs offensive capabilities being used to attack those countries.
I suspect that, if he didnât and British citizens were killed by Iranian strikes, he would be vilified by the same people who are criticising him now.
As I often say, politics is often about choosing the least worst of a bad set of options and nowhere near as simplistic as some would like.
Very true, but maybe donât try to use an international law argument that doesnât work.
Luckily, Mr Scullyâs blinkered view on the regionâs politics is not shared by those having to make the tough decisions forced on them by the maniac in the White House. He should be thankful that the UK pm isnât Farage or Badenoch who would no doubt have already offered to participate in the bombing of Iran.
Yet another U turn by a pathetically weak and indecisive PM. He has to go!
In the middle of a potential world conflict?
Iâve lived and travelled extensively there Tim. I read Haaretz to get an inside Israel view. So i donât think Iâm blinkered. In fact the exact opposite ![]()
There was no need for Starmer to stick his oar in at all. I think heâs just licking Trumps boots because of âthe special relationshipâ
Just like the fool Blair did with Bush.
I donât think one can praise him for not doing what Farage would do
and Badenoch is only doing what oppositions do, if she actually had to join in, would she? Iâm not so sure. It was Labour that got the UK into the Iraq war and here we go again.
I could be wrong of course and Iâll admit it. When, for example, I see other countries using Starmerâs (IMO flawed) âprotect UK citizensâ logic to join the conflict.
What Trump is doing is wrong, He didnât consult Congress, he didnât consult the UN, he didnât consult his NATO allies, he didnât consult his Number Ten poodle. I doubt he consulted his regional allies, though Saudi seems to have been playing a double game. No surprises from that foul regime.
Trump has been manipulated and played for a fool by Netanyahu (top marks for deviousness).
This is from HaaretzâŚ
"In a joint statement by Starmer, Franceâs Emmanuel Macron and Germanyâs Friedrich Merz, the three said they agreed to work with the United States and regional partners to âwill take steps to defend our interests and those of our allies in the region, potentially allowing necessary and proportionate defensive actions to destroy Iranâs ability to launch missiles and drones at their source.â
I await developments ![]()
âMeanwhile, France denied that it had sent an aircraft carrier to the Middle East.â
This is going to be âinterestingâ. Whatâs going to run out first, Iranâs drones or the USâs interceptors. I know where my money is and itâs not in dollars
John, I suspect youâve never owned a poodleâŚ-
This oneâs barking very aggressively at a rather large Spanish bear
Should be a Russian bear.
Thank you Sue but right now I canât laugh at this situation. I donât actually want Starmer to live one day longer.
Thatâs true Mark. Only a well behaved wire haired fox terrier and a less well behaved cocker spaniel.
The one currently in No. Ten is certainly barking (mad) ![]()
Thatâs pretty unpleasant. Maybe you meant to add the word âpremiershipâ in there somewhere.
Otherwise I will leave you with Gandalfâs words on the subject.
Buy an RS3, then just do U turns, how would that make you feel?
Starmer, the fool, just canât win
IMO he should just bugger off.
