Personally, I reckon everyone should be grateful to you for pushing Brexit out of the limelight… and that’s no mean feat !
Well done Grahame

Well done Grahame
Brian it was a bit of fun. You do remember fun don’t you? It was what we had before Brexit became all consuming It wasn’t aimed at Grahame particularly, just wandering off at a tangent as dinner parties do
Woahhhh hang on a minute there Brian…
If I may be ‘allowed’ to express my opinion on YOUR thread as well - I’d make the following comments / observations.
Grahame joined the discussion at post 32 by offering some contradictory, incorrect and incomplete information - which, to give him his due, he has stood by throughout. Can’t understand why - but there you have it - his choice.
Get this - private individuals in France are NOT allowed to burn anything on their property - it’s common law. Not up for debate - it’s a fact. So ‘contributions’ to the contrary are misleading and could mean readers of this discussion making bad decisions resulting in heavy fines. I note you praise Grahame’s contributions.
Grahame was asked for specific examples of the things his commune allows him to burn. He has chosen not to share that which, some (me) may consider, to be deliberately unhelpful. Enter - Mariegate! Which IMHO was some light relief in the middle of an incredibly boring and unnecessarily complicated thread. I was about to mute it !
Brian, I (normally) enjoy and appreciate your posts but I strongly object to the suppression of free speech just because it doesn’t go the way one would like. I often find some things hard to take, often throw my toys out of the pram and can contradict myself - but guess what - I’m just a mere human being! Like you.
I’ve possibly hashed up what I’m trying to say but - too late it’s out there now
One more thing, whilst your sexuality has absolutely no bearing on this discussion, I understand and support the sentiments you express.
I almost never correct people’s French (spelling or grammar) here, but sometimes correcting someone is preferable to letting them continue to make an elementary mistake which will make French people judge them unkindly.
And seeing ‘mairie’ written ‘marie’ umpteen times made my eyes bleed.
I think that you have given a very good response here Simon and have managed to say exactly what I was thinking, as usual far more elequantly than I ever could, thank you
Only took 30 goes at it.
Thread muted😠
Why bother telling us then ?
Just doing what others do on here - letting you know l’m bored with it - yawn
So not really muted then if you are still here

Thought l had but having a problem doing it - no problem muting individuals but just can’t seem to mute this damned thread:blush:

Well it’s quite easy Dan, you stop looking at it … just can’t keep away can you !
Yes it’s definitely got me under it’s spell as it’s so enthralling - but l thought l had muted Misty too - l’ll go back to preferences and try again😆
Best news of the week … I shall count myself very lucky indeed to be included with the other exalted and intelligent members’ on your ‘muted list’

So after 137 posts I know that garden fires are banned unless your Mairie says you can have one but you shouldn’t really because it’s bad for the environment but your neighbours will have one because presumably they don’t care about the environment and obviously us Brits will probably follow the rules but if we don’t we could be fined.
Deep breath.
Oh and it’s Mairie not Marie!
You also know more songs about Marie than you ever thought existed

You have the right to your opinion, of course you do. Others have a right to theirs , to me it moved away from Grahame and into a general bit of fun (people who work in environments such as the NHS or policing etc will recognise how that happens ). Also, perhaps @cat will be able to correct me on this, I thought once we had started a thread that was it. We haven’t any say or power over what is posted in it.
Maybe if Grahame had answered the question asked in the first place then we would not have got so fed up of his parroting “ask the marie”, simple really ! I quite agree with Nellie, it may have been you who posed the topic but we all have the right to our replies too…
With the greatest respect to Grahame he could have simply said what stuff he burns but he chose not to which wound up the usual suspects, the spelling error got out of hand and then thread drift took over.
For me, your sexuality has no bearing on this discussion and nor should it have. I don’t post that I am hetrosexual or lesbian, black, white, yellow or pink. I don’t post about the lifechanging things that have happened to me because it doesn’t affect others.
Yes you have had some nasty experiences in life, they may have made you less tolerant about banter but do try to put things into perspective. I can take as good as I give but have never been called a bully !
