I need a cheap or free bookkeeping programme, have tried free one from Ciel for Autoentrepreneurs and free Turbocash and find I’m wasting a lot of time. Am wondering if I wouldn’t be better off with old fashioned pencil and paper system. My needs are very simple prepare invoices, mark as paid, send receipt, total income and record outgoings and total expenditure.
Yes, I think you’re probably right, unless there’s the bookkeeping equivalent of a magic wand, which is what I really want!

I’ve used Freshbooks.com for automated recurring invoices, and it works with Shoeboxed.com which tracks expenses…The free edition of Freshbooks gives you three clients and the tax rates can be customised. Can vouch for the ease of use and ‘set it and forget it’ set up.
