Yes, that’s quite right. The Charente region is (fairly) flat and low down but as you go closer to Limoges you climb higher in to the foothills of the Massif Central - the volcanic region. The massif shelters the Charente from most of the rigours of the weather from the east and it’s far enough back inland from Charente Maritime to protect it from the worst bits of the Atlantic weather systems from the west - so what’s not to like?
Limoges is famous for its porcelain plate and the airport which serves the Charente well by Cattle-Air and Squeezey Jet from/to the UK. It has also recently been acknowledged as having the most beautiful railway station in the whole of France.
They fly along fixed corridors which can as low as 300 ft. we have one over the house and see them now and again, like this morning around 10 am.
