Brexit means Brexit means Doom and Gloom

This can in some instances depend upon the nearest abbattoir.
There are places in the south of England where it takes less time to transport live animals across the channel than use an English abbattoir. Strange but true. I heard this explained on Farming Today.
Whilst on the whole I agree that on the hook exports are better for the animals concerned, I do not think that we have the facilities in UK to deal with a sudden change in circumstances. as there has been a massive closure of abbattoirs.
This will most likely be hill lambs sent to France for fattening here.

Like the announcement of the vaccine approval. The spin is right up there with the Boltzmann constant.

You can eat your cake and still have it. I think most of those Brexiteers are fake or pretenders. I don’t believe people did not know what they were voting when they backed the campaign for leave. They want Britain back and they got it. Why do you want to close your border and expect France to give you free entry. What a joke.

Now, almost a year after the actual Brexit, no-one knows what they’re going to get, whatever they think they voted for. Apparently Johnson is going for 'one more roll of the dice", establishing definitively that Brexit will conclude as a game of chance. What a joke.

Maybe a positive out of the mess. If the Europeans dont get access to british waters they wont allow the fish to be sold in the EU. Thus the fish stocks might be allowed to recover?

The disagreement over fishing is nothing more than symbolism on both sides as the hit to the individual economies is minuscule.

except that @tim17 the UK is reported to be saying they want to have the ability to impose quotas on the EU and given their (UK) penchant for disregarding treaties and international law, the EU is understandingly cautious.

Pardon the fish analogy Graham but this is all just a ‘red herring’, the fishing dispute is being used as a pawn to get the UK to agree to other things because the EU knows Johnson used the example of fishing when talking about ‘taking back sovereignty’ so politically he can’t afford to give too much away.

or should that be a prawn

That is exactly what we said.
Meanwhile the Brits are going to have to start eating different fish.

Herring and chips anyone?

I’ve not heard mention of the Falklands lately, but it sounds like no deal will be a real blow to their fishing industry and economy.

Squid and chips anyone?

I quote …
“In excess of 90% of our seafood products are exported to the EU market, representing over 40% of the Falklands GDP and up to 60% of public revenues. There are no comparable market alternatives. Unless there is a significant change in the attitude of the UK Government regarding the position of our access to the market in the Brexit negotiations now reaching a conclusion, our Seafood Industry faces tariffs of between six and eighteen percent in a few weeks’ time. We have arrived at this situation despite the very best efforts of the Falkland Islands Government, which we applaud and are grateful for. However, we understand that these efforts have unfortunately been in vain and the evidence is that the UK negotiating team and senior UK politicians are not pressing our interests in the final negotiations, neither in the negotiations themselves or in the margins.”

The Leave campaign did not consider the UK-EU border in Ireland so I doubt that they gave a microsecond’s thought to the Falklands economy.

It is particularly ironic in ostensibly “protecting the sovereignty of our fisheries” they will destroy the economy of a community a previous Tory government fought a war1 to retain.

I’m starting to get angry again about Brexit, it had gone from the front of my mind for a lot of the year - obviously worries about Covid were more pertinent.

The sad thing is that, even if it really goes pear-shaped and there are empty supermarket shelves and food riots, those who have reached this far and still think it is a good idea will not waiver in their faith - they will buy 110% into the blame shifting whether it is the “Remainer parliament”, the EU, Remainers, the judges, lefty activist lawyers or anyone else that they can point the finger of blame towards in an effort to not look in the mirror.

1] Only a small one, but a war nonetheless.

Utterly brainwashed. 30 -40 years of poison about Europe from the tabloid press and now some Brexiteers are okay with people losing their jobs, maybe even their lives as long as Brexit happens.

More like lobster, crayfish and squid and chips.

Don’t forget that all of the constituencies with car plants voted Leave.

That just about sums up the mentality of many !!!

Sounds absolutely delicious! In Oz calamari and chips is a best seller.

I didn’t know that about the Falkland Islands. Poor buggers.

I’ve been a bit the same.
