Brexit Vote, what next!

What did anyone expect ?

Boris was odds on to take over and his Out Crusade is gathering momentum, the cabinet rhetoric is amazing as even the Remainers don’t seem to be able to respond. Word is that the cabinet is facing the sack for anything remotely resembling pro Remain comments.

I didnt put the above in the category “Brexit Humour” as I see no humour in these at all…

Indeed.

I am getting the feeling that the Cabinet is going to be sidelined.

Jane reluctance doesn’t come in to it. It is her sovereign right and duty and she won’t shy away from sacking a PM who has lost the confidence of her Parliament.

Maybe Jane but let me assure you I am certain Parliament won’t allow itself to be!

I hope you are right!

I live in hope.

Thrilled to discover this article by Yanis Varoufakis that clarifies and extends many of the points I’ve been trying to make here on SF - particularly that by directing their fire at the soft-brexiters/remainers in Labour, the ‘ultras’ on both sides have made a hard/no-deal brexit more likely:

I think that Remain realise the dangers of a split vote in any forthcoming General election and the Parliamentary recess is giving them time to make their plans to defeat No Deal.

I think Corbyn still has a shot (or three) in his locker and this article you’ve shared suggests what it/they may be.

Corbyn may be stubborn but he is astute, emotionally intelligent, and principled. He is capable of envisaging possible futures and assessing the feasibility of attaining them, not necessarily in his life time, but in the lifetimes of future generations, a future that is fragile and in peril. As you have pointed out, Geof, the young know this, and will rally again to his ‘call to arms’, I predict.

Brexiteers and their ilk say he lives in the past, but they fear him. They do not underestimate him, it is they who are the cocks crowing on the dung heap, and destined for the pot au feu.

Peter pot au feu is made with beef!

And I wouldn’t waste wine on those cocks…so chicken soup is the best end.

Bien entendu, Jane. :hugs:

I think I meant coq au vin. But you were very gentle with me, ‘cos you know I’ m still learning, and get mixed up.:disappointed::+1:

Hope you’re right Jane! Did you see that 10 Downing Street has cancelled all staff leave before 31 October - some are saying it means a General Election before then, as I feared.

Did you see the recent release of Labour Party membership figures Peter? Very interesting - but under-reported since it didn’t support the media narrative that people were leaving Labour (membership still well over half-a-million people, still the largest socialist party in Europe, small decline since the peak but only in line with previous trends between leadership/general elections).

No, hadn’t seen it but very pleased to be made aware. I have great admiration for Corbyn: the man has guts, staying power, and a charisma that isn’t of the fake tan spray-on variety peddled by the vulgar press. Any man who works an allotment is a man deeply rooted in the future of the planet, and in our national heritage. He makes me feel proud to be British. Not much else does that for me these days.

UK press completely misreporting the intent behind Merkel’s comments although with Johnson acknowledging that it is the UK’s responsibility to come up with new suggestions she has batted the blame-game ball firmly in his court.

Macron injecting a bit of clarity.

I despair, I really do.
