The generalisation that it is always football, which was your intent even if not stated. The topic of British is best… Major events and the way they are policed, Uk are light years ahead.

You dont see similar scenes at cricket, rugby, tennis, F1… etc. I am struggling to even come up with any sport with the same behaviour. Happy to be proved wrong.

Don’t get me wrong I love football and prior to moving to France I was a season ticket holder - but I do not like the tribal nature of the support.

Our son and daughter were at the netball today, son lives in Birmingham and daughter travelled by train. Tomorrow they have tickets for gymnastics but due to train strike canmot get there, even from outskirts of Birmingham. Britain at its best with the inbetween stuff.
Driving not an option as nowhere to park.

So if I go to football I have to expect to be tear gassed then. No of course not, dont blame the fans, blame the organisation and the policing. The Lionesses have been fantastic, any fan or policing problems?? Thought not.

Interesting observation - I assume the gender make-up of the crowd is very different to either of the other 2 games highlighted and hopefully less tribal.

Totally missing the point. It is not about the fans or the sport, tribal or otherwise, it is about the organisation and policing. Like it or not the UK are way ahead of French, I have recent experience of both.

And that is where we differ. You should not have to keep fans apart for peace - not required in other sports.

Keep telling yourself what you want to hear as I am done.

British puddings, are they worth saving?

I liked rice pudding and bread & butter pudding as a boy but can’t remember if mum made my favourite, suet pudding with syrup and custard.

Around the corner from the office was the greasy-turk café where I and the lads always asked for it if on the menu that day.

The nearest to my favourite is probably the treacle sponge pudding in the Guardian pudding article.

Agree 100% about bread and butter pudding (these days I get it ready made from Sainsbury’s); sponge puddings not so much.

When I was a rebellious teenager and had finally pushed my long suffering father to the point of no return, I’d make him a suet pudding as a peace offering.

It always worked…

He’s turning up here next week so I might have to get some suet and introduce the French pastry chef to le suet pudding…

British pudfings seems to be becoming trendy in some proper US restaurants. I wouldn’t write them off yet

Currently in Normandy and was offered local dessert of Teurgoule. Which basically proves the links between Normandy and England as is just a rice pudding.

Fond memories of chip shops’ steak puddings, mainly very industrial (Hollands) but occasionally made on the premises with ‘real’ ingredients.

IMO:-

Former: best eaten in Istanbul aka sütlaç.

Latter: Anton Mosimann’s famous version - is it still ubiquitous forty-odd years later?

When I was working in that area, they advertised apple crumble at one place, another dish they like in apple country

In support of Mr Scully’s thread title, I think this exhibition at Tate Britain more than qualifies

I only wish I were in London now to visit this. Lee Miller’s eyes on the world are for me what art is in photography.

I have had that from the supermarket. Quite nice, a bit too sweet. I tried making it, not very successfully. If I remember correctly you put the oven on very high then put the rice, milk, etc in and turn it off, leaving overnight.

Wait until next year when it will be in France
