Having read various articles on the internet I am somewhat confused. I am a British citizen with a second home in France. I would like to buy a French LHD motorhome, but am I allowed as a foreigner non EU that is? If so, can anyone recommend a reliable supplier.
Yes you can buy one, but no idea where from. I’m sure someone will tell you though - good luck
There’s a lot of debate on whether a foreign 2nd home owner can register a vehicle in France. I’m not sure which side has it right but you need to satisfy yourself that you can.
Yes totally confused. Initial thoughts are that I cannot do it myself but a French dealer can as I have an address. Who knows, so many conflicting views
These people are in Bergerac and seem busy. They are 2 minutes away from the airport.
and they have a huge amount of motorhomes on view all year
Driven past it but wasnt sure if it was a rental place. Lots of vehicles on the forecourt. Maybe able to advise me on the rules as well.
I strongly suspect they’ll tell you all is fine
Fantastic, thanks Graeme. That link explains all
I’ve dealt with the guys at Bergerac, had to get some gas pipes extended for my caravan, very good set up and very helpful.
You can import one vehicle to register at your second home, but as your buying a French registered vehicle in France the dealer will register the van to your address, strangely they normally do if you have mail delivered, so your not “using up” your right to have one car imported!
Insurance will also be to the vehicle, having a UK licence shouldn’t cause any problems, I think France us the same as Portugal it’s the vehicle that gets insured not the person, but could be wrong!
Why only one? Is it different for second homes as I brought over 3 when I moved?
John good evening, sorry my reply went into the void that is space!
I’m referring to those amongst us who still live in the UK but have second homes in France many beloved that unless you lived here you couldn’t “import” a vehicle, but you can legally bring over one vehicle, register it and thus obtain French plates for a second home, if you move here permanently then the rules are different, I believe the age of the vehicle is taken into account and you can bring more than one but duties could be payable at the point if registration, but I also know if people who have brought over and registered more than one vehicle.
Hi, This may be old but I am British with a second home in France, also the owner of a french registered motorhome and french registered car. No issues what so ever with either. Both are coming up for sale as locating back to UK for health reasons. Town house in Midi Pyrenees also available.
