Buying a property from a Mairie

Hi, recently came to the south of France on my own, found a house I would like to buy, used to be the old schoolhouse and is still owned by the Mairie. I'm not sure if there are lots of pros or lots of cons buying a property from a Mairie. Anyone got some tips/warnings/suggestions, etc?

I'm very much a newbie in France, so I'm kind of blundering through, with the aid of many kind people and angels only barely disguised! So if you're one of those, all advice gratefully accepted...

Many thanks.

My OH sells property. A couple of things she has had were communal properties. The real difference appears to be that when they say €X is the price then that is it and no attempts to squeeze out a few bob by saying somebody else with another agent is interested and such lovely tactics.

usually a good deal, the sale is no different to any other, same process etc. old schools are a classic and often very good value. Bonne chance ;-)
