It’s never occurred to me before to look on Leboncoin for things (I know - slow on the uptake…) but I’ve found several posts suitable for replacing the broken items of my favourite crockery.
The first question that springs to mind is that some of these posts are quite old, and the most recent was last March. Do these adverts get removed when the item is sold? I’ve been getting my hopes up but perhaps that’s a mistake?
All advice from you more experienced people will be much appreciated!
You can ask for ad to be removed automatically on the site pages when you have sold what you advertised but most just leave their ads on the pages until it expires naturally. If its something popular you have had a lot of calls/emails about and sold, then remove the ad or they will continue to pester you. If you see something old, you may strike lucky its still for sale.
You can easily ask the seller if the item is still available. Indeed, the question is already prepopulated in the inquiry form. It doesn’t really hurt to just buy the thing anyway because if it isn’t shipped within about 3 days your charge is reversed back to your bank card automatically.
Agree with the others, just ask! I’ve got sofas on there that haven’t sold and have been there over a year! I was trying it on a bit to be fair, but never got around to dropping the price . Add to list
Every chair you sat on, table you ate on ect while you were here were from LBC!
I’ve only had good experiences on Le Bon Coin (LBC).
One tip that I learnt was to not publish your 'phone number, & insist on enquires only via the built in messaging system. This avoids calls at inconvenient moments from Norman farmers who then deliver a torrent of indecipherable patois down the line.
Amongst other things I’ve bought bales of hay, beds, & a van via LBC. Equally I have sold van tyres, a macerator, & some old rusty trailer dropsides that had been used as cladding on a barn.
When I was selling machinery and big tools on LBC, my neighbour would come round and stay with me in case the interested parties got out of hand, my son would not allow me to sell on my own unless it was something simple, too many out there trying it on and no word of a lie, the brits that respponded were the worst when it came to the settling up time, several did not like me sticking to my asking price and left angry as they thought they were getting it for very little.
I have become a bit of a hoarder too, since we moved from the US 2 years ago. I have collected about 6 Italian and Spanish expresso makers and I need to shift some of them. I don’t want to face the problem I had in the US before coming here. We sold about $60K worth of stuff mostly on ebay and some on Facebook and Craigslist. It was a full time job for 3 years and I still had to give away about $5k worth of stuff at the last minute. I haven’t sold on LBC but it looks fairly easy- just need to get started.
Within the last hour I’ve just sold my first item on le bon coin - an (imitation) rattan garden table with glass top, 6 chairs and some stools. It takes up too much space and we’re putting stuff in storage whilst moving house…
I clearly undervalued it though because it was snapped up in minutes and I’ve had so many people still contacting me about it even though it says it’s sold and no longer available Must get round to deleting the advert tonight.
We use LBC to give stuff away - ’ à donner’ - works a treat… For example we put on LBC the offer of dozens of (emptied) cardboard removals boxes when we arrived. People almost queued up to take them away, as they’re apparently expensive here in France. Some even tried to give us money for them!
Yes, managed to give away a large, 6-berth tent that I’d not used for many years. I bought it 2nd hand and had got my use out of it, plus I’m too old for camping these days. I didn’t fancy putting it up to test it had everything and was still waterproof, which I figured I’d have needed to do if I was charging someone for it.
The guy who took it drove for an hour to come and collect it…! He then realised as he was loading it into his car that he’d forgotten the bottle of wine he was going to give us. Or so he said
You can look for items being given away, too - I have acquired a couple of good pieces of furniture that way, from people who really needed to move house without the very nice antique buffet…
