Car insurance for UK car in France for just inder 6 months

Currently use LV who have put my insurance up £300 to around £700 pa. Any recommends andxwhat premiums are others paying? I’m 69 no convictions or claims vast NCB good health

Easiest way is to use one of the policy comparison sites. Other people’s premiums will reflect a number of factors including where they live, making it hard to compare directly.

Then you can either go with an alternative, or use the better quotes as a stick to beat LV with.

It’s amazing how often insurers will suddenly find a better price if you threaten to cancel.

You will need to make sure the quotes include the cover for 6 months overseas though as most UK insurers give you 90 days per trip in line with the EU tourist visa.

LV’s site mentions EU cover up to 180 days but doesn’t say if that can be consecutive, so you would need to check.

This happened to my partner with LV.

It would be worth your while to run a few quotes from comparison sites just to make sure. Eg moneysupermarket, comparethemarket. Have a look on moneysavingexpert.com for which comparison sites to try.

I did this for my partner and the exact same policy same car came out at 40% of the quoted renewal cost and in another year even less. Needless to say we took the comparison site quote. And this happened in more than one year.

In theory imsurers aren’t allowed to treat renewing customers worse than new ones these days but I’m sure it’s worth a check.

This being the operative phrase. It’s shocking how often a renewal quote will shoot up.

Though to be fair this year both my business insurance and motorcycle insurance have been pretty much on par or slightly cheaper.

I have obviously used all the comparison and LV. Does any one have a picy that covers 6 monyhs in France gor a UK car and who is it with.

Not on comparison sites NFU mutual. Great cover, you can pay monthly without paying interest, cover includes UK breakdown and they told me they would, subject to a request and underwriting consider covering me for 180 days on France. You have to phone them, its old school but I like it.
