Car sale in france

Hi - getting a bit confused on what forms i need to do to sell my car. I’m getting asked to provide a ‘certificat de cession’ to my insurance. do i need to fill that out when I’ve already done the procedure through ANTS and have a code de cession?

I guess no one cares then?

As I’m not a resident in France I can’t answer your query - but i am slightly surprised no-one has jumped in with some helpful info.

Come on regulars - this, surely, is exactly the sort of post we should be good at helping with.

In the meantime @dustyjon you might find the info you need if you search through old posts. It must have come up previously.

In fact it has - Completing a 'Certificat de Cession' for vehicle sale online

Probably other threads as well but that was the first that popped up on a search.

Have you provided your code de cession to your insurance company and perhaps your sale invoice?
In my experience proof of sale is sufficient.
Have you transferred your insurance policy to your new vehicle?
I have always found my insurance company very accommodating but they are keen to get all paperwork in order.

Thanks Billybutcher - a fellow electrician i think (from memory of other posts). It looks like SF are more interested in aguing about Trump and MAGA at the moment :joy:. I’m just trying to finalise the car sale so my bank will end my insurance policy on it. madness!

Hi Johnboy - i did. It’s my bank (who provide insurance) and they aren’t answering my calls / emails. I have two other cars with them. one new one and a really old van. There was no transfering to do because there was a month cross over. But thank you for backing up my notion that the code de cession will be enough. It seems daft to have to fill out that cession form too

I thought it was generated as part of the selling process , to be signed by both parties. You keep a copy for insurance cancellation .

Personally, I only have knowledge of the other end of the process so far, i.e. registering cars, so not a lot I can offer.

thanks anyway :grinning:

hi mark - what do you mean by ‘generated’ ? do you think i should have downloaded something when i got my code de cession from the ANTS website?

If the follow the steps, can’t go far wrong… :crossed_fingers:

I forget the exact details but yes.

:+1: thanks

great - i’ll take a look. thanks

thank you. i’ve realised that i did the online process and got the code de cession, but failed to download any forms: * Cerfa form n°15776, called certificate of assignment

  • Certificate of administrative status. i just logged back into ANTS but there is no record of me doing anything. That website is a waste of space

Useful summary for anybody else wanting to sell/transfer a vehicle

thanks. the cerfa form (15776) is pretty damn annoying.

The insurance company accepted the code de cession to end the insurance - if that helps people in the future. Legally i’ll have to fiull out that Cerfa form 15576 too. I think it will be more important to the new owner than me though. It seems it’s all done my end now. I’m going to help him later. He speaks zero French!
