Car valuations

We’ve a little 2000 Peugeot 306 Cabriolet for the last twenty years. Perfect condition, 2 litre, autobox, only 56km, well serviced and much loved ,but she doesn’t get driven too much these days. It’s probably time to move her on to a new loving home. The value of good 306 cabs seems strong in France, but I haven’t a clue how to price her (I’m better at buying cars than selling them :roll_eyes:). How does one get a car expertised (without having to have an accident) and, of course, she’s not a voiture de collection, yet?

BTW, just to take a swipe at Peugeot (and in my experience Renault are no better), I serviced her at great expense chez Peugeot for eighteen years and then when she actually had an issue, with the roof, they said “Oh non monsieur, ce n’est pas une Peugeot, c’est une Pinninfarina.” Bastards :face_with_hand_over_mouth: It was a Peugeot while they ripped me off with dealer priced servicing, but once support was actually required it was soddez vous off :roll_eyes:

Hell will freeze over before I’d buy anything from the PSA Group and, if as I’m considering, I acquire a R5 it will be on lease, their car, their problem and if anything goes wrong (which I’m sure it will @SuePJ ) I’ll just stop the prelevement until they fix it.

You are in the realms of individuality here. Price is purely on condition and ‘what you can get’. A quick look on LaCentrale has them, all manuals, between 3k and 14k…

Cabriolets are on a hiding to nothing with age as there so many micro switches, each dependant on each other for smooth operation. With one or two badly adjusted over the years does not help, so if yours works well, do highlight this in your ad.

Do you, per chance, have a demountable hard top with the car? If so, load the price as they are ultra rare apparently…

No, I don’t. You’re right they are rare, and a pain to store. As to the roof, it is tricky and, to be honest, not that well designed or made. I’ve spend at least 2K getting “tuned” over the years. A manual one, as on the 205, would have been better. I had a Merc 320 SL, one of the last R129s, a real Merc, for about eighteen years and the roof worked impeccably. The locking clamps on the top of the windscreen were hydraulic. It had a hardtop and, as I say, a pain to store.

Yes, I remember ads for secondhand cars used to say prix Argus, don’t know if they still do. It’s the equivalent of Glass’s guide in the UK. I think I’d like her expertised, that way the buyer and I know that price is fair. Back in 1982 I bought a car here that was written off in an accident a few weeks later, the insurance company paid me more than I had paid for the car because the Expert said it was in such good condition prior to getting thumped.

Yes, barely used, But the timing belt, water pump etc. all changed regularly based on time not milage. No expense spared, as they say🙂 I just ordered new carpets as the original ones look a bit tatty, they weren’t great quality even when they were new.

The one issue she has is that the bodywork paint is slightly faded, but the bonnet and boot paint is new. About ten years ago a hail storm peppered them and I had them replaced, so the ageing is out of sync. I didn’t even claim on the insurance :roll_eyes: If I was keeping her I’d have the wings and doors resprayed too.

Oh, in that case, it’s only worth a fiver but, out of the goodness of me ‘eart, I’ll give you a tenner
