I noticed that ViaMichelin now quote a figure for your journey. 20,7km emits (iiuc) 3kg of CO2 (which I find astonishing).
However … is there a way of “paying” for the amount of CO2, ideally in a way that benefits France and even our département ?

You only have to ask.
We support a Fondation de France project.
Elon pedo guy Musk makes more money trading CO2 credits to those who maybe causing the problem than he does from cars. Draw your own conclusions. Even experts cannot agree if CO2 is good or bad.
Why would you?
I live in an agricultural area, it needs CO2 to grow the plants. In return they give us oxygen.
Sorry. I sort of read it that CO2 is a bad thing.
Some CO2 is essential (part of the carbon cycle) probably about 300 ppm is optimal. Its now much higher and directly linked to fossil fuel burning (and maybe deforestation and oceanic pollution).
You could try asking if you could make a donation to your commune to help them purchase some sapling trees for planting in and around public areas. Not only would the trees absorb the CO2, but would beautify the area, and also provide some firewood in years to come.
its around 420 ppm whenever I have measured it (central London). Except in that indoor theatre with the “sophisticated ventilation sysytem” where CO2 would top out around 1200ppm at worst and regularly 800+ ppm
