My wife just hired a car at Strasbourg airport through a broker with Europcar. The Europcar website says that there is a charge of 8 Euros a day if she takes it over the border to Germany, which she did, to be paid on pickup. What it doesn’t say is that they would charge her another 6,50 for an obligatory “assistance plus”, to cover her for the road assistance, which in France is included in the rental price.
I daresay it’s hidden somewhere in their t+c, but I think it’s really bad.
How interesting. I have never heard of any surcharge before for taking a car over a border within Europe.
The most I have heard of is that some rental companies used to not allow some higher groups of car into countries where apparently they were favourite stealables eg Mercs into some Eastern countries.
I think I’d really want to avoid these charges and not really sure they’re legal in EU. Can she rent elsewhere?
Too late, I’m afraid. Having her flight delayed and arriving at 8 p.m didn’t leave her feeling like doing anything but just accept it.
