Carigami Rental Car Company - Q and A

HI folks! Someone on a FB travel group recommended Carigami as a rental car company. I’ve researched them, and looked them up as a possibility for my upcoming rental from CDG and returning to Toulouse Matabiau Gare.

They have very reasonable prices and insurance coverage options. They can offer me a virtually identical car for close to €100 less than the existing Enterprise reservation I hold.

Does anyone on the forum have experience with them? They have generally excellent reviews on Trustpilot.

I had a look when you mentioned it on FB and they appear to be a broker rather than hiring directly. You need to look at who’s supplying the car and what their reputation is. I looked at Dublin for our summer trip and all the cheapest deals were Easirent, who are pretty awful to deal with and try to screw every penny out of you.

I’ve not used easirent for a while now, provided you take out your own insurance (that’s how they make their money ) they can be very cheap . Dont know about now, but I once hired a Fiesta (i think) for about £1/day, with unlimited mileage.

If you’re renting one way to or from Paris and not taking a lot of time take a look at driiveme. Other destinations available.

Usual precautions as when renting vehicle make sure you get insurance to cover the monster excesses charged in Europe. Either take the rental compamy’s ripoff daily add for this, negotiate it in or get yourself an annual vehicle excess coverage policy separately that will cover the excess on any rental you do during the year. Or you can just cover 1 rental of x days with some providers but annual usually works out a lot cheaper. (beware most only cover cars not vans or other vehicles).

PS if you look on the forums either Europcar or Enterprise hasn’t a good rep - I think it’s Enterprise - and airports are particularly higher risk places to pick up from or drop at in terms of the hire car industry’s various thievery and France is not bottom of the league for these dangers so be careful. Btw sometimes you can save a lot by picking up at a place that’s not an airport although Paris locations may all be fairly expensive.

It’s originally a German company called billiger-mietwagen. As has been said, it’s a broker for car hire companies. I’ve used it often and was very satisfied with its before and after sales service and the fact that you can cancel up to 24 hours before without charge, so if you find something cheaper in the meantime you cancel and rebook.

since i am arriving with two monstrous suitcases and two dogs, airport locale is critical! I will be dropping at Toulouse gare, which I have done twice before, and that is a good location at least. And YES to a stand-alone car rental policy. I think I will go with an annual, since I’ll be using LeClerc or other supermarché to rent this summer until I find a forever home.

Thank you for the info!

I just this week took out a yearly policy (max 31 consecutive days rental) with Cover4Rentals. Think it cost me about 65€ whereas Hertz wanted to charge me 100€ for 3 days. Had an issue with my payment initially being declined so emailed them and they promptly responded. Hopefully I won’t need to ever make a claim to test how quick they are at reimbursements.

I’ve been using this sort of cover for years. It takes the worry out of car hire.

You should check if your credit card covers it. Ours do.

This is fantastic. For my 5 days, Allianz and another are charging 52,50€, based on my residence in the US. But as of the day I arrive, I am a resident of France, with a real phone now AND an address (that my hostess is fine with me using), so I think I will cancel that and do this, instead.

However, to get the collision (CDW) this will cost 109,53€. The lower rate may not cover that - check it out. The fine print was miniscule, of course. Still a great deal, as I will be renting cars this summer to find my long-term residence.

I just returned from Toulouse and used europcar, i can highly recommended them, i had my own full cover insurance that I brought online before travelling for around €60, you have to be careful with so called cheaper deals as they will ask for a bigger deposit, at Toulouse airport all the car hire companies are temporary in Car park 2 , which is a bit of a walk, Good luck and have a safe trip

None of the rental companies seem to have a good rep, if Trustpilot is anything to go by. Except VIP cars, which offer you a good price but don’t tell you what company you will be booked with.

Its quite typical for people with a beef to write a bad review whereas 1000’s of happy customers dont

Also misinformed and inflated expectations come into it. When my brother had the photo franchise at the Beaches Resort in Turks & Caicos we used to get guests come into the photo centre to ask why it was raining - apparently it’s not allowed to rain in the tropics!

I just experienced the best service of my life with Europcar north in north Limoges. On the other hand, I still remember getting ripped off by Enterprise in the US and will never use it.

Europcar was also offering a deal online for cheap excess and everything else insurance, to which I added an online Enterprise coupon. Plus the incredible rental agent upgraded me from the bottom level car to an MG hybrid that was a dream to drive, set up Android Auto for me, switched the language to English, and ran through all the things I needed to know about the car that I usually sit in the parking lot and have to figure out for myself. Extremely impressive!

For a 1st post it certainly sounds like an advert?

Exactly.

Having been there on a china purchasing expedition in 2012, or thereabouts. I’d say there’s a fair chance that, if not independently mobile, it could generate a violent desire to rent a car to get out of it :slightly_smiling_face:
