Hi - has anyone been successful changing visa status from a 1 year ‘carte de séjour visiteur’ to ‘profession libérale’? I have been declined with no context.
I don’t believe it’s possible to change the visa type when in France, my understanding is that you need to reapply from your country of residence or home country.
It’s hard /near impossible to do it in country. And what process did you use? I’ve read of people succeeding, but after a very long time. Far quicker just to start again in home country.
Hi -

- Changement de statut = standard legal route (but limited categories)
-
2 AES = discretionary route (préfecture decides case-by-case)
Hi @susanmsmacdonald and welcome to the forum.
It might be helpful (and would certainly be nice) if you would give us a little info about yourself and your links/hopes re France and what bureaucratic route you have followed so far.
Cheers
Both routes you set out are very much within gift of préfecture. And my understanding that the AES route is strictly limited.
But either way the stories of others are that this is just not a priority for préfectures so can take a very long time. And you have to stay legal, so many just give up after months of silence and get their changed visa via another route, Most of the people I’ve heard of are British, so not that hard to prepare papers, book appointment and pop back to the Uk for a short’ish holiday.
Hi - I’ve owned a property in France for 25+ years, British but speak fluent French, my daughter goes to collège in France arriving here at age 10 (now 12) and plan to stay here. She’s a high performing junior tennis player. I work for my own business currently setup in the U.K. Thanks
That suggests you might be planning to move your business here and are going for the entrepreneur/prof liberale visa? Did you prepare and submit a business plan for an a avis favorable? If you didn’t that could be the reason for automatic refusal,
