I am considering changing suppler. Is there a procedure like there is for changing car insurance or does one simply approach the chosen new supplier?

Worth reviving this thread in light of recent info.
We didn’t change suppliers today, but did reduce our monthly rate by a predicted €22, after reading an article on a new Que Choisir (French ‘Which’ equivalent) group buy deal in the occasionally unjustly maligned Connexion.
It’s limited to the first 150,000 applicants, we were amongst the 112000th so it’s going fast. If anyone wants to find out more, start at Energie moins chère ensemble - Achat groupé anti-inflation : électricité
We found the process fast and simple.

Thanks for posting that, I’ve just signed up! So there’s one less left - in fact the count was at 113000+ ish when I clicked.
Just to note, it’s an extra 12€ to pay if no subscription to Que Choisir, 6€ if a subscription. Not sure though what happens if one doesn’t click the Que Choisir email to confirm signup.
That 12€ does adapt the rate, still on say 3K kwh it moves it from base 1.1616 to 1.1656. Or, another view, one recoups the 12€ after 600 kwh at my current rate. Or simply it’s the price of a couple of happy hour beers 
. And it is for 2 years - though the electricity price might go down…
The cheapest I’ve seen is an xmas flash offer from ekwateur at 1.1602 - however, they don’t answer the phone or pearly to emails and the very nice English speaking advisor from Hello Watt said they wanted 600€ deposit for the year which one might have difficulty getting refunded within a year due to dodgy ‘bill adjustment’. In fact I did see one refund complaint on Que Choisir. So I took her advice to walk on by.
