Cheap on-line pet supplies with reasonable priced shipping

Can anyone suggest some good website where I can get dog & cat supplies at reasonable prices. I have used Pet Plant and Zooplus which are OK for larger items but the postage is quite high when you want to buy small items like Frontline packs.

P.S. I apologies if this subject has already been covered but I couldn't seem to find it in a search.

Sounds like you are sensible and have it sussed, and if times are hard, you will always have plenty of dog food to eat! :)

That i do understand the first outlay is the hardest after that i put the money aside each month when my pension comes in by the end of the year i have enough to buy the next years supply, the trick is not to dip into the savings then it leaves the amount short and we dont eat for a month but the dogs do

It may also be difficult to them to find the cash up front for large quantities and perhaps have to buy on a weekly/monthly basis. I don't know why the prices are so much higher here, it seems unfair that France should pay more. I have often pointed out to my French friends it's cheap to buy from a UK site (incl. p&P) than buy for a French site or shop. One of my neighbours was bemoaning the cost of branded trainers that her son wanted as they cost over 100€ here, from Sports Direct they were £35 for the same! They are now Sports Direct fans!

I have suggested to the local chenil but they seem reluctant i think storage is a major problem i would have thought that others more organised would have tried that route but maybe not from the reactions i got here with laughs and sniggers until they saw the price list but most folk wouldnt benefit only having 1 dog or cat again if a group of friends got together its who will store a large amount

Although the price of Frontline was good on this site, it didn't have the worming products I wanted so have ordered from VetUK this time. As a comparison, the cost of Frontline (1 x pack of 6) was slightly cheaper with VetUK but when you add the p&P the price is the same as Wanimo (promo price).

Having now looked as several sites, it amazes me the different in price for the same product. I paid €29 for 6 pipettes of Frontline for cats here, (sorry don't have the price of the dog equivalent to hand). For reference, Wanimo was €25.42 with promo (no p&p), VetUK £21 price drops for more packs e.g. 2 = £18.90 each (+ p&p £4.99), Amazon FR €23.24 (+ p&p €5.99), Zooplus France €29.90 (+ p&p €3.90). I did look at a couple of other sites (UK or FR) but they were either much more expensive or didn't ship to France.

Thanks for the heads up on that site, I will certainly refer to it in future.

As you say, it's what works for you. We have recently got a puppy but have had cats for years and having tried many brands, Frontline works for us but I'm sure other brands are just as good. It's always good to hear other people's views on products.

That's a huge saving on dog food. I wonder how the likes of Phoenix etc. do for food, because, as you say, it's much more expensive here. Perhaps if they negotiate direct with the manufacturer, like you, they can get a more favourable price.

Have never used Frontline the vet here doesnt think its effective so have always used Advantix still shop around as its a different price from the vets, pharmacy or agricultural sales i jump in when one has a promo, think most of the online sales are pretty much of a muchness and unless you are prepared to buy in bulk from a manufacture its not really cost effectve re food, i save close on a 1000€ per year by buying direct but i order 52 bags delivered to the door by a nice man in a tranny van, with 4 dogs we could not afford French prices of 65€ per 15kg bag thats over 250€ a month.

Having been involved with the O.E.S rescue for years in the uk i know what funny tummies some have so i had to find food that suited all 4, when we moved to France i was horryfied by the price of dog food and not wishing to change food contacted the manufacture who agreed to supply in bulk at cost price i aranged transport @£194 for 900kg but its still cost effective compared to the shops in town

They have it all on offer at the moment Karen at www.wanimo.fr

Hi John,

At the moment, I am looking for Frontline combo for both dog and two cats and worming spot-on for cats and worming tablets for the dog. I usually buy the Frontline at the supermarket/pharmacy and the worming spot-on and tablets from the vet. I'm not sure if the worming spot-on is available here anywhere other than the vets. I am sure there must be a cheaper way of buying some of these but not so sure when you have to add on £5+ for postage. I've been looking at a few of the sites suggested and VetUK seems to be the best value so far.

What do you want, if its food then i import my own has to be in bulk to make it worth while but 4 large Old English Sheepdogs get through 15kg a week i buy two grades one retails at almost £40 the other at £15 the expensive one is for the 2 older dogs as it has a joint suppliment the other two wont tolerate the higher protien so its a working dog diet , in the uk i buy at half that including transport, you cant buy advantix from the uk without a vet prescription and some suppliers still wont send medication over even with a prescription so i have to get that here and we get worming tablets again in bulk from a friend who buys them at Crufts when she goes every year though i do have the uk address so will try direct next time, most small items by the time postage is added is cheaper to buy here

Lynn & Melanie,

Thanks for the sites. I had looked at vetuk but didn't know the other two. Will have a look.

It had crossed my mind to group together with some friends, we sometimes do that with M&S deliveries.

p.s. I meant Pet PLANET not Pet Plant in my post!

You could also get together with others to cut the postage possibly??

Hi Karen , I use www.vetuk.co.uk.

I find the prices for frontline, worming tablets and food much cheaper than here even taking the cost of postage into account.
Recently I bought 2x 12kg bags of food, paid £10 postage and it was still cheaper than the price of one bag here. It was delivered within a couple of days too.

There is Zooplus france and wanimo.fr, I also use http://www.vetuk.co.uk/ these are reputable but be careful of some online stores as you sometimes don't know what you are getting.
