Checking a company’s validity

Good afternoon,

Firstly, hands up… I’m not a very techie person!

I would mention the companies I’m interested in but I’m not sure if that would breach any of the rules on SF.

I am interested in putting a couple of sea containers on my property for storage. I have found 2 companies online that appear to offer exactly what I am looking for delivered to the property at a very reasonable price!

And, this is my concern… the price appears to be most reasonable?!?

So this is making me a little apprehensive about proceeding.

Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have checked the Siret number and it is listed and matches the company name and address??

Thank you in anticipation Cameron.

I’m not sure about putting company names on here but someone else will know.

Have you looked at these people on Trustpilot or Google reviews if they’re available?

Would like to know how you searched, and what you chose as the best options and why.

Thank you Jennifer,

I hadn’t thought of Trustpilot.

Search is inconclusive, the company does come up. But 0.0 and no reviews..

Google search also comes up with nothing!!

Hi Karen,

Searched for Maritime Containers… “ conteneur maritime “

I am looking for smaller Containers so searched for 10’ and 8’

And three companies came up, all offer prices inclusive of delivery. And the websites despite being totally different, have similarities….

If these are French companies then you can check their Siret/Siren numbers to see what they are listed as.

And then you can do further digging here

(Oh, don’t forget planning permission for anything over 5m2)

Thank you Jane,

Have double checked with the link you sent incase I was using the wrong thing.

Both companies do come up on the Siret/Siren checker and at the addresses listed etc…

Will have a look at the more in detail link you sent see if that helps??

Do you know if I’m allowed to ask on SF if anyone has used the companies?? Not trying to promote them, just ensure I don’t get stung!

Appreciate the help, thank you.

Regards Cameron.

Well, one company is listed as a Container repair company. Only been trading for one year, company directors listed but no financial info.

I’m guessing that would be the case with one year trading??

The other company is listed as trading for two years, as a wood supplier!!??!!

No financial data and no directors listed so I think I’ll definitely avoid that one….

Regards Cameron.

Sounds like you’ve answered your question!

Whether it’s firewood or shipping containers, if the price is too good to be true …

Hope you find a good source.

Ask away but maybe no one has used them. As @Porridge says, if it seems to good to be true…beware.

Yes, exactly the reason for being careful.

So, has anybody used or know any who has had a container delivered by a company called:

HB Conteneurs based in 07400 Le Tiell?

Regards Cameron.

Think I’ve definitely answered my own question…

Just googled the address, an apartment block in the middle of town… miles from the coast

:rofl::joy::rofl:

Hi Karen,

If you are looking for a shipping container.

HB Conteneurs

ALGE Conteneurs

KD Outillages

These are the three companies I have now discounted from my search as I believe them to be bogus.

Good luck…

Regards Cameron.

Many smaller businesses operate in this manner it may be the registered address and not the storage depot.
Why not contact them and ask? Any answer may be more indicative of a genuine business than guesswork.

Edit: looking at HB conteneurs website it’s rather impressive for a scam company.

Hi Jay,

Thanks for the input :+1:

Yes, that is something that I had contemplated and contacting them for a litmus test, was going to be my next move.

I just thought I would reach out to the knowledgeable peeps on here to see if I could get a clearer picture.

And yes, I agree…. the web page is very informative, complicated and presentable!:thinking:

Cheers Cameron.

I suppose some websites are easy to clone, if their security isn’t good. There was an example (mentioned here, I think) recently.

:thinking::thinking::thinking::thinking::exploding_head:

Thanks…

Bank transfer only equals scam.

https://fr.scamdoc.com/view/2490022 . It’s 6 months old with a confidence score of 1%

Put any website into scamdoc or trust avis and you’ll get a decent starting point.

Siret etc are useless checks on the internet. They just clone existing companies - or ideally clone one that’s recently closed and they normally make sure the description matches.

If it’s too good to be true …
If you can only pay by bank transfer

Thank you Chrisell,

I feel so sorry for those people that have lost money!

And there you have it, if it looks to good it’s usually to good to be true!!

I appreciate everyone help.

I don’t know if there is a way of posting of SF for people to be warned not to be tempted by these company’s

Regards Cameron.

Hello so I would say in a situation like This if you can’t find good information about this company. Like reviews ect and the container you want is much cheaper than other companies then go with your gut instinct to good to be true. Especially when they have been trading for one year. What is the payment method if you don’t mind me asking is it a deposit then full payment after delivery. I have just had a cleaning company go do a deep clean to one of my renovation projects before I hand the keys back to my client. The company came to the site to see what needed to be done sent me a Devi I excepted they then went ahead with the work then sent me the facture by email saying you have 28 Days to pay the invoice. Does the internet page have a padlock on it there’s so many companies out there that just want the Deposit once they have that they never send the goods they do this repeatedly because it’s so much hassle to go through all of those channels people just don’t bother unless it’s your iLife savings . I run a small Building company and you have to be so careful when even reading emails just in casses you click on a link I’ve even had one from the police saying I need to contact them thats how bad it is ten to fifteen emails per day and probably one or two are genuine good luck
