Checking out a car online

Hello everyone, as posted a little while ago, we are buying a car online through a dealer on La Centrale.

I’ve done some searches on here but can’t find what I am looking for.

Is it possible to do a car number plate check online for French vehicles?

Thank you

If the FR have the same resource as UK DVLA’s Tax/MoT check and MoT history check, that is a supremely valuable facility.

In looking for a UK vehicle I am able to see the history of passes/fails and mileage. What is extremely useful are the advisories which, if not repeated the following year, mean they were fixed.

Analysing the MoT history one can identify major outlays which are then unlikely to have to be dealt with soon. When I sold my van, the buyer could see from the MoT history that it had had a new steering rack [£400] new front brake discs - all sorts.

The Dealer should provide you with all the info you need… dont’ be afraid to ask.
and buying from a Dealer does give guarantees…

and… the Dealer can possibly change the (logbook) Carte Grise, online, for you as the new owner…

The French equivalent of the DVLA checking service is called HistoVec

Thanks

I’ve also just found reparcar.fr/vindecoder which is good for a quick check before going down the HistoVec route

Car dealer is doing the change to the Carte Grise for us. I’ve asked the dealer lots of questions and all responses seem satisfactory but nothing like doing your own research as well.

When I bought my car through lacentrale the dealer sent me pdf copies of all vehicles orginal docs, the old carte gris, service receipts from last owner also the dealer did my new carte gris for me. When the haulage company delivered the car all the original docs were on the back seat in an envelope. It took about 3 weeks for ANTS to issue the new carte Gris which was sent to by registered post, ANTS will also send you a tracking number so you can follow progress.

That’s good info digitracker, thank you. I will make sure the dealer puts all the original documents in the car for when it is delivered. Glad to hear about ANTS and that it shouldn’t be too long before we get the new carte grise.

I think you can try CarVertical to give you the full history.

This is an extremely good idea. When I bought my current (UK RHD) Honda Accord estate, there were two cars I was looking at - similar age, mileage, spec and price. I ran them both through CarVertical and it revealed that one of them had suffered substantial front-end crash damage (photos were included!) which had been repaired, but which the dealer of course didn’t mention in their AutoTrader or website listings… Obviously I bought the other Accord!
