We have requested a book of cheques for our uk bank account 3 times.
They have confirmed that each time a book has left their system and been posted to our French address , which we have confirmed as correct. They have ordered a fourth book to be sent.
We only use the account for sending cheques for birthdays & xmas to our children/grand children & now great grand children. This is a Virgin account - anyone else having problems ?
But itâs not the same; there was nothing nicer - comments from daughter and grand-daughter - than opening a card at Christmas or on birthdays - to see a cheque - and the amount was always a real surprise. Bank transfers just arenât the same - they donât have the lovely surprise element with them. And Iâm sure bank transfers are used by the OP - they want cheques for special reason - and they have a problem with non-receipt.
Iâm with the OP - card with cheque inside - always special !!
I know weâre all different but this actually made me guffaw! I guess itâs like going into a museum or antiques shop and looking at the things people used to have in the olden times, educational as well as good for their bank balance!
To be fair, my Lloyds Bank app for my UK account lets me take photos of the front and back of a cheque and theyâll consider it paid in. I donât even have to send the paper one. Barclays do something similar but they want to have the original sent in the post.
The reason we donât send a cheque inside with the card⌠is that the envelope (enclosing Birthdaycard and our loving wishes) sometimes fails to arrive .. aargh.
If there had been a cheque inside⌠double-aaarghâŚ
Being late (despite early posting) is bad enough, but the thought of a cheque going adrift doesnât do much good for my blood pressure..
We always transferred money to our daughter and she would buy whatever was âon the listâ or put the money in his money box, even now he has his own account, grandson is happy for that to continue.
Oh dear - now whoâs showing their age - these days there is no ââŚgoing to the bankâŚâ - they get out their smart phones, take the photo - et voila - the money is there in their bank accountsâ - immediately !! So come on - get real; if one sends Christmas or birthday cards - then another envelope inside with the cheque - and the amount is always a surprise (inflation means the amount increases every year) - and thatâs the whole point of surprises - isnât it ?
Theyâd only bounce !! Tax season is here - and the cupboardâs bare; family have been told to lower their expectations drastically this year; after all, Iâm now a widow with no money - and they can only expect e-mail Happy Christmas from me this year !!
I confess that I made no attempt to answer the questionâŚ
but I remember being flabbergasted to think that there were several cheque books âlet looseâ ⌠possibly going to cause a financial wobbly to the account holder/or someone if they fell into the wrong hands.
and I did wonder if this was a real examination or just a mockâŚ
I would assume thatâs primarily that no one has had any experience with this , not least since cheques are terminally on the decline for consumers in the UK. Having a dozen bank accounts myself (due to being a fintech enthusiast, not a fraudster ) I have always found banks to strongly dislike sending things abroad via regular post and will often attempt to courier them, at times although not always, at my expense, so my main take away from this is that Virgin Money (Nationwide now effectively) would waste 4 lots of postage sending these things out. After the first didnât arrive youâd think theyâd insist on it being sent more securely by a package delivery firm where it could be tracked.
