As has been pointed out multiple times the EU does not have a special status called “Ex Member State”

Whether it will get anywhere is entirely another matter of course.
I signed it 2 years ago an not a lot has happened with it since.
But it isn’t, it is dependent on being a citizen of a member state.

Totally understood - but that is what the petition seeks. The fact that nothing has happened in the 2 years since I first came across it indicates that the EU don’t view it as significant either.
IIRC it was first suggested by Guy Verhofstadt during the Brexit debates in the European Parliament but nothing further has come of it which is probably why this organisation is resurrecting it now.
I posted in the spirit of providing information for those who might have an interest.
In any case I thought there had been a couple of decisions which confirmed UK subjects can’t “retain” EU citizenship post Brexit.
And what of those born before 1973 anyway?
Can’t we just identify as EU citizens? It is 2022 after all.

When I am asked if I am English, I always reply that I am a Europeene Britannique.

I now say I am Irish (as I now have an Irish Passport =thank you Nanny).
I get a much warmer welcome.
My wife is hoping to get a Scottish passport in a few years.
