Climate/ecological breakdown

Well you’ll get the benefits of all those polyphenols

I recall a friend being admitted to a French cardiac ward with a suspected heart problem and all evening meals came with a teeny tiny bottle of red. It was a complete surprise but much appreciated especially as the person in the other bed didn’t want theirs so my friend had 2!!

At the stage of being in hospital any damage would probably have been building for some time so why bother missing out.

Unfortunately there have been massive problems in France too. It probably is even worse in the UK as more establishments are profit making private companies.

My thoughts exactly, Vero.

Fortunately France seems much better organised and oriented to do the decent thing - keep people home as long as possible.

Cheaper for all concerned, as well, including the State, instead of the UK’s failing half-ar$ed capitalist-spiked solution.

Very relevant article to the earlier ‘modern diet’ discussion…

Yes, we really do need to stop eating beef.

Or make it a rare treat (no pun intended).

If you don’t want to eat beef or meat in general be my guest, but nothing makes me want to say eff off then being told what I should or should not be doing.

I receive what climate scientists are telling us about what’s happening to the Earth in much the same way as I received the doctors advice when I had cancer: it was good to have somebody that knew what I should do.

If you ever get caught I’d love to see your charges sheet in that case…:joy:

Has anyone thought of climate breakdown and swimming pools? A lot of you have them.
All the chemicals and energy needed… For what, unethical personal pleasure or paying clients detrimental to the planet!

It’s a good point Wozza. My wife runs a gite complex here and I’ve been advocating and to some extent succeeding in ‘greening’ it over the years (in so far as it is possible to green a large concrete inground pool). We changed it to saltwater (so it makes its own chlorine electronically instead of adding chemical chlorine) and the heating to an air source heat pump. Also interesting that both these changes save a lot of time and money too.

It is possible to have a natural pool - @Corona will know more about this than I do - I would certainly have tried to go that way had we been starting with a blank sheet of paper, as I love the look of them as well as the lower environmental impact.

But as with everything environmental, you have to start where you are and do your best with what you’ve inherited…

It’s shocking isn’t it. I love beef, but have recently reduced my consumption quite a lot. Now, its nice to have to have a small amount in a stir fry. I notice that goat meat is much lower, lower than mutton/lamb. I love goat, but here it’s really hard to find. I fell in love with goat curry in Jamaica in the 80s. Yummmmmmm

It really depends upon how responsible you feel you may be for future generations. I’m not meaning to be snarky in saying that. It’s really a state of mind, and not everyone thinks the same. I disagree with your point of view, but it doesn’t mean to say that I think you’re a bad person. You’re probably not. You just think like a lot of people do.

Climate/ecological breakdown …my solution would be a smaller human population just replicate yourself, over a few generations population will fall at the moment world wide 50 million a year die but there are 100 million births

You’re right. The elephant in the room is there are far too may humans on the Planet already, and we’re breeding at an frightening rate.

Is this a euphemism? Because if so, yes, everyone just replicating themselves would certainly cut down on the babies born…

An euphemismis is mild or indirect word or expression substituted for one considered to be too harsh or blunt when referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing. , No it is not, my view is to reduce the worlds human population
