Climate shaming is not working

She’s good actress like her mother and can read an autocue with great conviction, that’s for sure.

The couple of times I’ve seen video clips of her being asked direct questions, so doesn’t do so well.

She doesnt understand anything, when she started she bare knew her arse from her elbow, and she only tells it as her masters want her to tell it. One thing she does know is how to make money of which she has made quite a lot of it.

I’d second that, recent idiocies seem to be defending the huge profits of energy suppliers and saying that she wants to stop investment in solar because she doesn’t like looking at the panels.

One wonders (but not very hard) who’s shilling she has taken.

I wonder if she would be the victim of such vituperative comment if she was a middle-aged man?

Even if that were true she has gained knowledge during her time in the spotlight. She was, to quote, a “kid” when she did the first school strike. It was passion, not knowledge that drove that.

Even if that were also true it doesn’t alter the very important message.

I’m sure she has been funded by supporters, but that is entirely necessary for her to continue her work.
If she is gaining personally that is fine by me, unless it’s excessive. Campaigning is a job.
If you have proper evidence of financial disparities I’m keen to see it.

I’d hope so as people should call out whomever’s taking utter **** regardless of age, sex or ethnicity.

OK - let’s get to the specific facts, and sources. What exactly is the ‘anything’ you think Thunberg doesn’t understand? What specific ‘facts’ is she wrong about?

Fixed.

One day it will be the current young people who will be in charge. Whatever one may think of Greta Thunberg at least she has got off her backside and taken action about something she believes in. A stark contrast to the cast majority who just live for today, for their video-games, and for their likes on instagram. And are a health services’ future nightmare to boot.

I know which I prefer.

Where is your evidence for this Jane? My impressions (and the research I’ve seen) suggest just the opposite: that young people now are more politically engaged than their elders.

What probably is true is that they are more disillusioned with conventional political forms - the old parties, voting - but I see that as a sign of more sophisticated analysis, rather than apathy - a view supported by the presence of lots of young people in alternative campaigns, protests, bottom-up initiatives, etc.

Any answers yet @Rocam , @NotALot ?

I hate to be cynical but what, exactly has she achieved?

Don’t get me wrong - I think efforts to raise awareness are worthwhile but they have not yet reduced CO2 emissions by a single tonne.

I agree that young people are more aware and more worried about global warming than my generation but when the present cohort of late teens starts to put themselves up for election they will find themselves up against a political hegemony and a fossil fuel industry which has no interest in change and deep pockets with which to buy power and influence.

Some of these bright young things may well find themselves corrupted by the system - look at Liz Truss’s journey from idealistic young Lib Dem to wannabe Margaret Thatcher tribute act.

By the time those in power really accept that there is a problem, rather than paying lip service to the idea of change we will continue to rush headlong into disaster.

If only Truss was a tribute act for The Blessed Margaret. If only.

I did say wannabe - I caught a brief clip of the Cheltenham hustings, Truss saying something inane, but it is clear she is trying to imitate Thatcher’s vocal mannerisms.

Whatever you think about Thatcher, Truss is not 1% of the politician that Maggie was.
