Clover Lawn

Can we have a pic?

Will clover grow in sand. I live on a sand dune, got fed up of the Sandy garden so am letting anything grow to see what happens but clover would be nice.

I think the only thing to thrive in sand is that ugly grass but I’m no gardener.

Small growth so far, but getting there!

Look up Derek Jarman’s garden - shingle rather than pure sand, but many plants that would thrive with you too. A beautiful garden, that works with the surrounding landscape.

Thank you. That is a good idea. There are a lot of plants and it is a beautiful garden, it’s the sand between the plants that isa problem. I will look to shingle.

Ooh shingle means you can grow all sorts, thrift and eryngium and exotic things that like free draining soil, ginger etc.

There are some wonderful suggestions posted that I hadn’t considered before including
red clover from @JaneJones and thymus serpyllum from @AngelaR

Below is a link to an article with some other ideas:

Camomile lawns are nice, you could mix camomile and serpolet.

Can’t believe the neighbours letters  . They look like they’ve been written by a 5 year old, says something I think!!

Do you need to get rid of the grass first or can you intersew?

I suspect you might need to scarify or something to weaken the grass a bit.

Oh well that’s doable, unlike digging up the whole ‘lawn’, I use that term very loosely!
