Contaminated olive oil

I bought a bottle of organic (bio) version of Terra Delyssa Extra Virgin Olive Oil the other day. Having read about contamination of this and some other brands I’m wondering if I can return the opened bottle. I suspect not.

Yes, the organic (bio) version of Terra Delyssa Extra Virgin Olive Oil has been found to contain DEHP (di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate), a plasticizer classified as an endocrine disruptor and reproductive toxicant. This was highlighted in a 2023 study by 60 Millions de Consommateurs, which analyzed 24 olive oil brands available in France. The study revealed that 23 of these oils contained one to three plasticizers, with DEHP being one of the most prevalent. Notably, Terra Delyssa Extra Virgin Olive Oil was among the brands identified with significant DEHP contamination. huffingtonpost.es

I’d definitely expect to be able to return even an opened bottle, assuming you can tell (from batch number?) that it’s one of those contaminated.

Was it in a plastic or glass bottle?

Glass but the contamination is possibly or probably prior to bottling.

Rappel Conso doesn’t show any recalls for that product in France so you won’t be able to get any refund. We have a bottle of the non bio one we got at Grand Frais.

But what would you buy instead that wasn’t contaminated? Can only read start of article but sounds as if virtually all brands are.

It’s almost always the manufacturer using cheaper non food grade plastics in its plastic bottles that cause this sort of issue. You can get refills for that product in plastic pouches.

there was a recent bit in French Newspapers about some Olive Oil being recalled, but as it wasn’t my brand I didn’t take much notice.

and, as in Murphy’s Law… I can’t find the article now.

This is the recall
