Controle Technique

I bit of help and advice please.

I have to take my ancient Renault Laguna for its Controle Technique in a couple of weeks. I usually take it to the local garage who does any work I want doing, servicing etc, and books in the car for the test with the local Auto Bilan.

When I have the test, which I have always passed first time, I take the certificate to the garage and pay the garage owner the required amount. He usually hopes that I fail so that he gates the work. He makes no money from the test but gives the service in the hope of some extra work.

The garage owner has messed me around a lot recently and I would prefer not to use him again as the Renault dealer in the main town has treated me well after the local guy had failed.

The question is, can I arrange for the test myself and pay at the Test Station?

What does everyone else do?

Thanks

Keith

Thanks Brian, That's a big help.

Yes, go to the CT place and book it yourself. I do that. Then if you can get a service and a mechanic's look over the car (I have an ageing Laguna too) you can then take it in with a fair chance of a pass or minimal work. You take it in, can wait 40-45 minutes until they are done and then pay. Retesting is free and you have a couple of months. It saves the risk of being ripped off by a garage who know you will fail and bring them some work in.
