Cost to run 2000W fan heater

Hi guys, I do permenance in a small shop and its getting cold. I need to have a rough idea for how much it will cost to run a 2000w fan heater for 9 hours. I know it depends on your contract etc but just a rough idea would really help

Using the current price for EDFs base tarif…

Cost per kWh (kilowatt hour) = 0,1952€

A 2000W load = 2kW (kilowatts) so using that for one hour uses 2 x 1kWh @ 0,1952€ i.e. 2 x 0,1952 per hour = 0,3904€ for 1 hour.

Running 2kW constantly for 9 hours therefore uses 0.3904€ x 9 = 3,5136€.

However, unless the area being heated leaks heat too quickly the fan heater will cycle on/off via it’s thermostat so usage should be less, if you set the thermostat correctly.

EDIT; kWh price as at 28/09/2025.

Not sure of the price of your electricity but inc tax a guess at .24 cents. Per kw. About €4.32 per 9 hours.

Is that before TVA Badger?

No, that’s TTC.

Better for sure!

Current UK ā€œprice capā€ maximum rate for electricity is 26.35p per kWh (€0.30). You can get it lower on a fixed tariff - ours is currently 21.95p/kWh (€0.25), but that will go up a bit in October.

Time I revisited mine, see what is around.

I’ve just done the UK check your meerkat thing (actually I used USwitch) and there wasn’t much in it.

So I renewed with our current supplier (E-On) for a 12 month fixed tariff at pretty much the same annual cost as we paid in 2024-25.

I’ve been nervously looking. I’m dreading the authorised banditry that are Les Jours Rouges.

The consumer website/mag ā€˜60 Million’ May/June # 146S is all about gas and electricity options.

I confess to getting totally bewildered by the options. A problem with the ā€˜60 Million’ examples are that they give tables for a couple in a flat [chauff collectif] or a family of 4 in a house. [chauff electric]. 2 bed/1 recep/chauff electric - one person … it’s guesswork.

EDF suggests I go from 12kVA to 9kVA - sensible - but when I try the Eng lang helpline, after being told that an agent will come on line shortly, after 2-3 mins the line goes dead. In the past, when I’ve got thru’, they have been very helpful .

I also got a billy doo from Hello Watt with their asessments. They came up with this. Anyone on any of thee suppliers? How was it for you?

Get yourself an electric throw, initial cost about €40 , costs about 8c per hour to run. I never need to put mine on anything but the lowest setting. It’s fabulous, I don’t knowanyone who has one who doesn’t think they are great. Why heat up the room why you can just heat up yourself.

Best way to compare is to do some (shock horror) maths.

Find your bills for the past year - they should tell you how many kWh of electricity (and gas if applicable) you used each month.

Tot up these figures to find your annual energy usage for each fuel.

Also look up the details of your current tariff - how much per kWh for each fuel, and also any standing charges.

You can then compare these to any new tariffs and work out how much your energy bills would be on the new tariff.

I’m not sure how you would account for ā€œJours Rougesā€ but maybe your bill will tell you how many were imposed and what the kWh price was for those days and you can estimate their effect?

The EDF app is pretty good for tracking usage too. Can see either € or KW/h, and track it by day, month or year. Also shows usage of Heures Creuses vs Heures Pleines too.

The EDF et Moi app does it all

Thanks Chris but I dont have access to the shops bills, I just needed a rough guide

Thanks Gareth but I dont have access for this fir ghe shop so I just wanted a rough guide

Indeed the dreaded Jours Rouges are all accounted for. Im sp’ose I’ll just have to sit down and do the sums.

Yes, it’s very comprehensive. The problem is that each of the past 4 years’ conso have had radically different situations. Balon change from 200l to 100l. Linky fitted. Timer fitted. Winter '23-'24 more heating post op.

But I will knit the furrowed brow and see what I can come up with.

Ah yes that complicates things! But hopefully you can work out a ballpark figure.

I don’t know how much French prices are changing, but with E-On in the UK they have fiddled with the balance beteen standing charge and kWh rate, but it looks like the overall price for next year will be about the same.
