Court rules that residents can refuse Linky meters - Update October 2018

You may be surprised…there is much that I don’t agree with but I’lll never surpress another Individual’s rights to say it…to say what’s on their mind…their rights to free speech…it’s a slippery slope to assume that any alleged “authority” be that doctors police politicians whoever have any power or jurisdiction over an individual rights to free speech…and worse still be taken off the streets for their opinion and even worse be dragged out of their own home and held against their will …imprisoned…at the whim of a so called “psychiatrist”…

I’ll not be a part of that…x

Helen, I agree there must be effectve checks and balances in mental health legislation and that the competence of psychiatrists is variable. It’s a strange profession and I think still at the early stages of evolution compared to other areas of medicine. Of three friends who are psychiatrists one is very sound (a specialist in dementia) one is a little flakey and one, who spent his whole career in the NHS, has been unstable IMO since school. Other psychiatrists I’ve met have varied from brilliant to bizarre.

Turning to this poor woman’s sectioning, based on her own comments there’s a history of mental illness in the family. She stated on her FB video that her sister had mental issues including attempted suicide and that the GP practice knew that. During her radio interview she stated that both her parents were “insane”, whatever that means. She’s very worried about 5G and believes the new local mast, which isn’t even turned on yet, is making her ill. She mentions in the video that a “military” helicopter has been circling over her house. She can’t understand why a busy GP, who would have no expertise in telecommunications or radio transmission, didn’t want to review all the research she dragged along to the surgery. Etc. etc.

Personally, I’ve no doubt that the GP took the right precautionary decision in informing the authorities. Whether the matter was then handled correctly I’ve no idea. What I also feel though is that this Ritchie guy exploited her.

Paul, I hadn’t a clue there was a movement building against 5G. That is until I overheard my kettle talking to the fridge about it last night. I then discoverd Gateshead street lights can make you pregnant, even if your a man! Spooky.

It’s pretty amazing for a technology that has barely got out of the labs, even in the US.

I liked the quote “I knew it wasn’t switched on because I couldn’t see the 5G icon on the phone” - good luck there as no phone on sale in the UK at present supports 5G so no phone is ever going to “show a 5G icon”.

To be honest I can feel a fair bit of empathy with the GP - a patient turning up earnestly clutching a folder of “evidence” that mobile phone masts cause eczema, headaches, brain tumours or smelly feet will make the average medical practitioner’s heart sink like a stone straight to their boots in about a millisecond. At best they are touchingly naïve and overenthusiastic, at worst totally barking mad and all shades in between.

Headache is probably a bit of a heart-sink for GPs anyway - it’s one of those common symptoms with a myriad of causes from nothing at all to seriously life threatening conditions - naturally the former is extremely common and the latter extremely rare, except in patient’s imaginations where they seem to swap themselves around completely.

I agree with your assessment about psychiatrists…x

I’ve not had a lot of dealings with them only when my dad died and my mom fell apart…and I can’t say I was happy with their diagnosis nor the anti-psychotics she was prescribed…grief counselling would have been more appropriate…she was totally devastated not schitzophrenic…

Susanne would maybe have been better to have got in touch with the hundreds of doctors and scientists who are researching 5g and the very real risks to people animals and the environment…???

Latest Linky fiasco…

~Serious question:

Does anyone have experience of the Linky folk coming to a property to change the meter… and not being able to gain access (owners live abroad)… ???

Our commune was changed to Linky a couple of years ago. In our lieu-dit those who had 2nd homes and were not around during the changeover are still with the old meters. I know personally of 3 houses here owned by Belgians and they haven’t been penalised in any way .

Thanks for that info… our Jarnac folk are due to be Linky’d, but they will be back in UK… so sounds like life will continue as usual…

We have had letters about the installation of new meters but nobody has yet turned up and today I received a cold call during which I heard the words electricity and contract so was a bit taken aback. Do we have to sign new contracts and if so before or after the meter is replaced. Also we have an old meter in one house and old edf contract, and a very new meter, erdf, and Direct Energie contract for the new one. Will both meters and contracts be replaced?

Melissa…

In your situation… I would make my way to the Mairie (yes, I’m on that tack again)… and ask them if they know what is going on… what is on the cards about Electricity supplies in the commune in which your houses are situated. (if you can take some paperwork, (a bill/contract) re your current electrical supply at each house)

It can be very difficult for anyone who does not have a thorough understanding of the language… and, at times, even for native French … so don’t feel embarrassed to ask for the Mairie’s help in explaining what it is all about… and especially do not sign any contract that you do not fully understand !!

Thanks Stella, I may do that. I usually ignore calls but sometimes listen just to see whether I can get htthe gist of what they are calling about. I think the problem is that they are refering to the meter contract and I was thinking of the supplier contract. I think they may be just wanting to arrange a rendez vous for meter replacement.

Unless you understand every word… ignore what they say on the phone… too many folk have got themselves into a pickle… by agreeing to folk coming to their home…from a “cold call”. We had quite a spate a few years back (not with Linky though).

Whatever, slowy and clearly I ask callers to write me a letter.

"Je fait rien au téléphone. M’envoyez un lettre s’il vous plaît.

… and I put the phone down.

and… if/when I get a letter that I am not 100% happy with… I leg it to the Mairie…

Ressurecting this thread.

Just got a “we’re coming to install a smart meter” letter from our UK supplier.

Phoned them to politely decline, expecting an argument - but not a blip, “yes that’s fine will flag your refusal on the system and you’ll get no more appointments sent through”.

It will come eventually, of course, but I think I’ll wait for the technology to mature for now.
