Hi Everyone - my friend and are contemplating setting up a very English cream team (afternoon tea) venture in her Chateau with a focus on us ExPats - but before we launch into this venture I really would like some input from the populous out there,
what would you like to see as an up scale - Friday, Saturday, Sunday (afternoon tea) All input is very, very welcome
Wedmore in Somerset use to have a tearoom where I ate the best cheesecake ever, I think it was famous I went there 25 years ago but I would travel quite a bit to get some more perhaps somebody remembers the recipe?
Bannock! My sister and niece are over next month. Among my things to bring on list is now a 'Cameron's Selkirk Bannock'. I make the Orkney bereal bannocks occasionally too. Both are a great part of a cream tea. As for the rest of several versions above, as long as crumpets are available love them all. I do so miss Aunties or Fitzbillies very much sometimes.
Proper tea, scones with cream & raspberry jam, red-hot crumpets or real muffins or proper toast (lots of butter) smoked salmon & brown bread sandwiches (no butter) potted shrimps potted shrimps potted shrimps, selkirk bannock, er ummmmmmm that's it off the top of my head...
Promise homemade made 'CHUNCY" real fruit strawberry jam - if fact homemade jams - Salmon cured in Voka, Scotch etc - cucumber 'Finger' Sandwiches and English style cakes, - lots of homework going into this 'Great English pleasure' something my French friends enjoy coming over and enjoy .
Oh how I remember a good Devon tea - and clotted - thick swirls of sugery syrup through rich thick decadent cream - I think I have just gain another pound or two
Decent strawberry jam with lumps, Devon Clotted cream with lumps( not that apology for cream from Cornwall) Unctuous Scones without lumps and a real pot of tea and fresh milk. Maybe a few meat or Cucumber sandwiches with a choice of white or brown bread.
Anyone putting butter on their scones should immediately be shown the door :-)
Thinking of at least 5 different menus - of which we are taking from some the more famous tea rooms such as - The Ritz Carlton, Buckhead, The Savoy, Windsor Court, Harrods , Blithwold Mansion & Gardens, Claridge's etc. It is the hope (?) if the interest is there to bring back at least once a month tea dancing, music recitals, art exhibitions, book readings etc. but it really is up to what once feels would be pleasurable. We are lucky enough to have a liqueur license at the chateau so we can server an aperitif- please more input
We are aiming for something special - a look forward to experience in a very positive way
Depends where it is located, would probably not be interested in just a cream tea, but if she is making clotted cream and offers other things as well, then that would make it a destination worth a visit. I would travel quite a distance if there was a good range of art / craft type items and english style clotted cream available for sale.
