I sent money to CF to convert and send on Friday morning and it was in our CA account the same afternoon.
Something isn’t adding up?
I feel sure that @Moray and my transaction are just 2 of many 1000’s that have completed successfully in the last few days.
Perhaps the trading and transfer beyond Barclays has a real person involved who has input a wrong digit ?
I had a look on Trustpilot and overall comments are positive although there are one or two unhappy chappies.
It is extremely annoying when David has to take on Goliath who they thought could be trusted.
I hope you get it sorted very soon.
Really? One or two? How about 620.
And the bad reviews continue:
Currencyfair won’t return my money
Release my funds!
Currencyfair customer service fail
Avoid this company
That’s in the last 24 hours. And NO positives.
Try looking at their facebook page.
This is NOT a small issue among one or two customers.
I wonder if Fujitsu designed the system?
Slight drift here - but in light of all the mess ups of CF, I thought maybe time to activate my Wise account in case I need a hasty exit!
Does anyone here who uses Wise, send GBP to Wise for transfer from First Direct?
I have a message from First Direct that they charge £5 to send money outside the UK. OK, not a huge amount, but if it can be avoided, it will pay for a coffee and pain au raisin
You send it to your Wise GDP account which has a UK sort code and it’s free - convert to Euros in Wise - it’s then in your EUR account - you then send to your French bank (also free as it’s an EU sort code)
Thanks Chrisell.
I thought this might be how it is, but Wise gave me a Belgian IBAN to send my GBPs to…
I will send them a mail asking…
You need to open a £ account. It’s not automatic - the Belgian IBAN is your Euro account. On the app on the main screen next to your Euro account there’s a box with Open - click - select £ and it opens a sterling account.
Yep! I have it! I certainly missed this.
Thanks again. I will make test transfer tonight.
For me, the simplest way to use Wise is with my HSBC debit card. It’s exactly the same as if I’m buying something in sterling via Amazon. HSBC do not charge me anything. The conversion is done by Wise and is (normally) virtually instantaneous.
Yes, I see that option, but all sorted now after Chrisells intervention. Thanks
This exchange market must be very competitive indeed. Hedging my bets, I signed up with Wise and TORFX. I made a trial transfer of 1K with each - Wise assures that I receive 1163€ and TORFX assures me 1169€. The inter bank rate was 1.175. I await receipt of each…
I can only hope that both are receiving many many orders to make a living on such low margins…
That is what concerns us. Throughout the whole of this CF mangement are not responding - helplines (not surprisingly) jammed, emails/messages ignored and no public comments.
Having funds frozen is one thing. Complete silence is when the alarm bells start ringing.
Still on drift - looking at both Wise and Tor fx, Wise is more geared to banking services. Their app is quite fiddly - but it would be. Torfx on the other hand is only geared for transfers, and as such their app is dead easy - just an ‘in’ and an ‘out’ button. As I score a cup of coffee with each 1K sent through Torfx, I shall stick with them now. Maybe review later on… They do seem a bit more friendly - I had two humans call me this morning during set up. Mind you, I do remember the days when CF had friendly humans as well!
Back to the subject, I did email CF asking why they have had a sudden rush of bad reviews this month. No reply since last night. Just maybe things are not good. Thanks to Sue for the heads up, but I hope not at the expense of you not getting your money…
Suddenly, today in an email, bizarrely they are behaving as if he is a new customer, asking him to confirm his details in the next 60 days. All the information they are asking for has already been sent to them in 2021 and in fact when he goes into his a/c he can see the information is there and confirmed by CF.
It’s beginning to seem as if they’ve lost records in the transfer to Moorwand.
He can now see from his a/c that the money is “pending” - this maybe progress.
That’s encouraging news Sue and your theory seems logical🤞
OH sent them a message yesterday in red capital letters. This may be a coincidence but …
CF have now confirmed this morning they have received his money and converted it and sent it to him.
So I asked him if he had received it. He said no, but he wasn’t expecting to as it takes 24 hours, but he’s hopeful for tomorrow. I do not understand how CF manages to keep ANY clients, even when things are supposedly working well.
If it does arrive tomorrow that will have taken ten days - not bad, some people have been waiting a month.
And if you are wondering, no he still hasn’t signed up to Wise - well one mustn’t rush these things!!!
Well, alleluia!!
That’s someyhing I suppose, though I don’t understand why some people have to wait 24 hours for the money to hit their bank. Ever since CF moved to Barclays, I’ve had the money arrive the same day as long as it’s been exchanged and transferred before noon.
Just a thought, but did your OH do a Send Money In notification prior to sending the money to CF? CF do warn that not notifying in advance can lead to delays.
As an aside … I sent money this morning to Revolut, exchanged, transferred and received in my CA account all within 5 minutes.
Standard procedure these days, I think - anti-money laundering.
OH has been using CF every month since 2021 to move some of his UK pension into France when he needs it, so he knows his routine. In fact CF itself has recently changed its routine because it says as it is not a bank it cannot any longer hold the money and the transaction has to be declared first, then the money sent.
In all of this, it’s worth remembering that First Direct confirmed the money had been cleared through Barclays, so in fact the financial process had gone ahead days ago.
I use Wise and use my debit card. From pressing send to payment is typically 7 seconds. I love the fact that I can see the money’s in my C/A a/c here in France and it (seemingly) hasn’t yet left my HSBC a/c in the UK. I’m sure there’s a brief moment of arbitrage in all of that.
Glad it is being sorted for you. Fingers crossed.
In fairness, it may well be in CA already, as some accounts there are only updated daily at 0900. I have two with CA - one shows instant dealings, the other is only updated daily…
I have not continued with Wise, but will use Torfx due to the total simplicity of it.
Let us know tomorrow - it is a lot of money to ‘lose’
