Data Breach. DGFIP

I understand that the DGFIP (French Tax Authority) has suffered a data breach whereby the financial details of more than 1.2 million tax payers have been stolen. The details include full name, address, date and place of birth, and all the bank details found on an RIB including the IBAN.
Official advice is to check your bank account daily for any suspicious activity.

Even if you don’t pay income tax, nearly everyone pays Foncières if they own property or Habitation on holiday and second homes, so check on that too as the Impôts will still have your payment details

Simply why these systems of storage with everything in one place shouldn’t be hackable. You would expect there to be a very complicated level of multiple systems to keep data safe.

There are people trying to hold the state to account and seek redress for victims (in this case, of the social security data breach last year):

As I understand it, the hackers managed to impersonate a third party body that had authorisation to access the details stolen.
Seems like the government needs to improve security oversight of such third parties.
