We heard the deadly sound of Death Watch on our last visit (April 2026). Managed to find local pest contoller, who could not visit until after we left.
Of course we employed an id..t. Sprayed exposed beams and floor (laminate), but did not drill floor and spray beneath as he said (by email) that the work would include. He is now saying that ‘ under the floorboards, by injection (the floorboards are drilled and the product is sprayed inside through the holes, means the beams across tthe roof !!
He is adamant that he is correct.
When asked if beetle are likely to have survived he said ‘I can’t know for sure like that!!
He has been paid
Any advice on how to proceed ref the tradesman and further treatment.
Please feel free to pm me a copy of the devis. Basically if he said he was going to inject, then he had to inject.
Personally I prefer to surface spray, in my opinion, the benefits of injecting don’t warrent the extra expense. The problem is that the larvae can live in the wood for several years, so you could still have activity for a couple of years after treatment.
Spraying should be 2 coats, a 2-up 2-down should only cost a few hundred € to treat. Injecting could be over 150€ per linear metre.
With the devis/facture I’ll tell you if they’re correct or not.
It’s a tough one this; the company treated for a spray treatment and the payment (about a grand) is the top end of correct, but 40%VAT I’ve never heard of, and termites in La Manche? I don’t think so, and neither are they a quick spray!
Hopefully it can be resolved, but I’m south of optimistic!
