I am planning to purchase a car and am debating between these two… I feel very comfortable with the Lynx as it shares many parts with Volvo. Have loved my Volvo in the US. The Geely seems like a safe car with a better battery range. Both are plug in hybrids. Anyone own either of these cars and can share any info. Thank you
Would this be a vehicle to use in France? I have to confess I haven’t heard of either of them but looking online they don’t seem to have that many outlets here. When I buy a car I always look at the servicing options.
I’m not a great fan of Chinese government subsidised imports flooding our markets in an attempt to destroy the European car industry.
But putting that to one side A quick look at Wiki tells me that Geely, Lynk & Co and Zeekr are all the one. So, one presumes they all have similar characteristics. As for the Volvo connection, I would consider that just a brand name with little or no real association with the Volvos of old, they seem to predominately use Geely platforms. Just like an MG has zero relationship, apart from the badge, to the old British marque.
Have you considered any European cars, even ones built in conjunction with our inscrutable friends?
hi. yes for France. Lynx is sold and serviced at Volvo dealerships. So they are more available. Geely is fairly new and is opening around the country. They are actually closer to me than Volvo.
the Lynx is built with the same steel frame as Volvo and has about 80% Volvo parts… I have been looking at other plug in hybrids but for size, money range. these seem to be the top of my list but I you have another suggestion I would be happy to look. would love more options
Geely own 78% of Volvo, so the latter should probably be considered a European badge on a Chinese product going forward, like MG as Sir @Roger_Lapin mentioned.
Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to be aware of if you happened to want a “European” car.
My next car will probably be a Renault Megane e-tech (EV) as it’s fully made in France - the motors come from a factory in Normandy and the cars are assembled in Douai near Lille.
I guess as Corona says starting out with your requirements would be best. For example, do you do a lot of long journeys, how many people would usually be in the car, is performance or range more important to you. Does an EV or a hybrid best fit your needs etc.
Which magazine (which is a UK independent consumer organisation) has good sections on EVs and Hybrids, as Que Choisir (the French equivalent) probably does too.
With a big expenditure (or if leasing, financial commitment) it’s probably worthwhile taking out a subscription (maybe they do a trial one) to Which. You can always cancel afterwards. I find it very useful when buying big ticket items, even ovens, fridges, etc. to check my research and choices are sound. We’ve just replaced two kitchens and I verified all the new appliances were high up Which’s rankings before ordering.
I’ve just had a quick look and none of their top five EVs or top five Hybrids are Chinese. That says something to me.
for the next year where I live does not have a home charger and we have a number of long trips coming up by car that make it easier to have a hybrid. once we move we will get a fully electric
My Volvo XC40 used to go to the main Volvo dealer in Perigueux, I never saw a Lynk & Co vehicle there and there was no signage for that brand so it may be worth checking where the nearest dealer is in relation to where you are.
As luck would have it I have just driven past Volvo in Poitiers almost next door to the airport and sure enough the middle section of the building is branded Lynk & Co, so it obviously is a thing, although as you wisely say best to check specific locations as it may well not be the case everywhere!
