Decent chocolate brand in France?

Sorry if there is an existing recent thread - I do recall seeing one but can’t locate it.

Any recommendations for decent chocolate 70-80% preferably Fairtrade.
Those we have tried so far have been disappointing to say the least.
In the UK we buy Waitrose (favourite) and Green & Blacks organic
Seems to be a lot of Nestlé - a company we avoid.

Also struggling to find nuts at sensible prices- especially Brazil.

I haven 't seen Brazil nuts readily available either.

Lidl for brazil nuts that arenot salted and price good compared to other stores. Decent chocolate from a chocolatier I am afraid if you want decent dark. I worked for Léonidas for years and their fondant was very good, expensive like the other artisanal but quality compared to mass produced lesser good ingredient brands. Try some of the cheaper stores, you might be surprised.

I assume chocolate can’t be brought over from the UK. We do sometimes buy nuts from Lidl in UK but prefer to buy Fairtrade. Will check Lidl here.

We send chocolate to and receive from the UK fairly regularly. It’s clearly declared on the customs form what’s inside each parcel and we’ve never had any issues. I’ve also carried out in my hand luggage when I’ve travelled, and it’s never been confiscated.

If you’re looking for French chocolate to taste then try your local chocolatier. You may have a very good one on your doorstep. If not then I can recommend one if you’re in the Medoc.

I bought some of this chocolate once as a gift… Not cheap but was excellent :ok_hand:

I was hoping to find quite decent chocolate for under €3 but accept that may not be possible.

Have you considered Lindt? I’ve not tried their dark chocolate but it’s inexpensive enough to give it a try next time you’re in a supermarket.

Edit: just remembered my OH likes Cote d’Or dark chocolate too. They are in individually wrapped packaging… Can’t for the life of me remember the name now though.

Is it called ‘Côte d’Or’? :wink:

I like Valrhona, Lindt (and Dardenne who make the only delicious 100% cacao no sugar or sweeteners chocolate, I have tried them all* so you don’t have to). Cluizel and Dolfin are nice too.

*Such hardship, such self-sacrifice I know.

I usually find Lindt to be too sweet. Will look out for the suggestions.

The usual one I use for chocolate mousse etc is the 70% and it is a bit sweet just for eating, try the 85%.

Haha, well yes, but much like Cadbury has Dairy Milk, Fruit and Nut, etc… Cote d’Or has different brands. Think they might be called “mini buche”. I clearly don’t treat her frequently enough to remember the name :speak_no_evil:

I think they do a truffé bar which is v good too :slightly_smiling_face:

I really recommend doing some thorough research in your local bio shop (often fair trade) You owe it to yourselves to work steadily along all the high % chocolates. :slight_smile: Like @vero someone has to do it.
You maybe surprised, the flavours are quite different depending on the part of the world they come from.
You might find Brazil nuts as well.
I find Lindt too sweet (even 85%) and too yucky - I prefer Côte d’Or (86% extra intense) if I’m buying in a supermarket.
Good chocolate isn’t cheap.

Incidentally, once one has identified a favourite (or two)… keep an eye open for the special offers and snap 'em up. Chocolate generally comes with a good shelf-life and it’s a nice feeling when one can get a bargain…

Why lots of Bounty milk chocolate bars but never any dark chocolate ones?
Of the French dark chocolates we find Cote d’Or very pleasant too.

Must admit I’m a bit of a pleb when it comes to chocolate
