Declaring an Inheritance

I have looked at past information on here regarding inheritance from a UK resident.

My dad died at the end of last August and I’m no nearer getting my inheritance. It’s not a large amount, however, I need to declare it and despite me reading lots of files I really am no nearer understanding the 1 form that i can find (2705 - sd) and apparently there are 3 forms. I cant find, 2750-s and 2706.

I’m actually at the point of thinking I won’t bother declaring it and just give the money to the kids.

All help gratefully received.

Have you considered visiting your local Tax Office and talking the situation through with them?

best of luck

Thanks.

Yes, I think I’ll have to. Perhaps France services may know.

If you’ve not actually received anything yet, it might simply be a question of saying “I’m due to receive blah blah at some time…”
Let’s face it, until you actually receive whatever it is .. you haven’t received it, have you?

Talking the situation through face to face will hopefully confirm what you should be doing in this year’s WWIncome Declaration.

Have you considered the approach set out in the post below? You are of course required to declare an inheritance, but it may be worthwhile testing the waters to see if your tax office will accept the pragmatic Mention Expresse route. If they dont, well you’re no worse off, but if they do you save yourself a lot of stress..

Depending on the amount, the length of time in France if you accept the inheritance - it has be legally declared.

I would check also, as giving it to your children could count as accepting it?

Check if the amount is above the declarable threshold, and maybe contact the relevant tax office, before the 12 months and inform them the declaration will follow?

It was actually quite straightforward once I had all the paperwork.
