Depressed again

Do tell, what methods, short of violent insurrection, are open to us?

You are right though, I fear it is too late. Labour is AWOL and the longer they spend being silent on the damage the Tories & Brexit is causing the worse it will get. I hoped we’d have a functioning opposition with Starmer but apart from being better at PMQ’s than his predecessor little seems to be on show.

but on politics, people have short memories (which is how Doris managed to get in to No 10 in the first place).
Best to keep your powder dry until the battle really commences? There is little in Parliamentary terms that the opposition can do against such a massive majority, no matter how frustrating it is in the interim.

Sadly I fear you are also right Paul. People just do not seem to care what happens to them. I think in broad terms it is attributable to the malaise of materialism. As long as they have take-aways, sofas and Netflix life is okay. This is very convenient for the Tories who can deliver just enough to prevent societal breakdown whilst at the same time undermining the social fabric and unity which in previous times would have hampered their actions.
They take care to preserve a strata below them which has sufficient to stop them from becoming troublesome whilst promising the world but delivering nothing to the increasingly unfortunate and uneducated masses.
If this is beginning to sound like a socialist manifesto then so be it. We have to think with our hearts as well as our heads. As I get older I am increasingly saddened by the almost daily injustices and corruptions either lauded or ignored by the press and media. I am as guilty as anyone of acceptance although I genuinely believe that here in France (Europe) I am at least part of a more caring and equitable society.

Hello everyone.

I thought I’d chip in here as this is a very big subject. I agree with Damian John, that we are indeed moving towards an autocracy, but globally, where politics becomes irrelevant, except maybe to quote random “latest figures”, based on which to inform people of new restrictions that will protect them from the nasty virus, and give reassurance that all is being done to safeguard their well-being.

Concerning the injustices and corruptions in the press and media, it needs to be understood that they too are heavily controlled and are used for propaganda and division. If you want truth, you need to be looking elsewhere. It seems that so many otherwise intelligent and disserning people believe that so long as they obey the draconian covid measures, which for the most part have no medical standing, we’ll be back to normal at some point.

But vaccine passports (for travel, entry to bars and gatherings), amongst other new freedom-destroying measures, seem to indicate the opposite. And so long as most of the media brain-washed public continue to comply, the restrictions will continue, all for a virus that can hardly be called a pandemic compared to previous real pandemics (though I am truly sorry for anyone who as lost anyone to this virus).

For me, this situation has stunk from the beginning, and as time passes, it becomes increasingly obvious that we’re being taken for a ride into global dictatorship, yet everyone seems to be happily wearing their mask in their car, when walking their dog in the park, and obeying the completely pointless curfews. What’s going on? Have people lost their mind? Was there a mass-labotomy that I missed out on? Where did common sense go? Logic? Reason? I don’t have a TV, so no doubt I missed out on some brain-washing.

The question was asked, what methods, short of violent insurrection, are open to us? Well we could start by not wearing a mask (especially oudoors) unless we are forced to in a shop, for example. Ignore the ridiculous curfew rules. Join one of the many dance protest-gatherings. Create or join a protest march, spread the message that what is going on is far from normal. Let’s take a leaf out of Gandhi’s book of non-violent non-compliance. Because if we do nothing except cross fingers that it’ll all be ok soon, 8 billion lemmings will be walking off a cliff into an unthinkable future world.

But that’s just my two pennies worth.

and covid

So you suggest that it’s all ignored, start protesting, and that the very unpalatable restrictions were and will continue to be unnecessary. Unfortunately we live in a world that this virus will continue to mutate and there will need to continued restrictions the severity of which will ebb and flow for some years. Just tell this to the families of 160,000 deceased, the workers in the health service most of whom are very pressured and stressed, business that are facing closure and the thousands suffering from “long covid” .
The world has been hit by the worse pandemic for three hundred years, so i suggest we have just accept that for what it is and support those who are trying to navigate a way through it.

I am wondering if you related to the Bristol rent a mob?
Before you get on your high horse you might look at my previous posts on police behaviour and cctv cameras.
We seem to be having a war between wokism and autocracy and I have no love for either.
