Diesel prices in England

Tesco was £1.45 earlier in the week. But if you are paying from a French bank account you may find that buying in euros while at Calais is cheaper due to charges on the exchange.

I will use exclusively a French card in France and an English card in England. I prefer to be my own master of exchange rates as far as one can be. :joy:

I paid 1.65/l for gaz at a Leclerc environs Cambai on Sunday 18th June. Same late May at a Leclerc Nantes.

Propane or butane? Sounds cheap l think the last 13l bottle cost me 37€

Frankly, I wouldn’t enter any country without a full tank of fuel… but that’s just me… very, very careful…

Sorry. I thought ‘gaz’ would be taken as short for ‘gazole’. I’d 'a put LPG if …

Currently arranging travel to UK for family wedding.
Will be driving there and back.
Gasoil here is currently around 1.60 euro per litre so do I tank up in Calais before entering the UK or wait until arrival at Folkstone?
Thanks in advance for advice on current pump price of UK diesel.

(See also @Griffin36 's post above from June 2023).

Current average price in Kent for diesel is £1.44 per litre which is €1.70 ish.

But the way the pound is dropping in value at the moment it might be cheaper than France by the time you get here.

Using the daily averages and current exchange rate [and please everyone note the word average] you will save 0.05€ per litre filling up at Folkestone…

£1.35 around Lewisham as an average, Tesco £1.329

About €1.58

I know it’s a big talking point on the news but at this moment Wise are offering an exchange rate of over €1,194 to the pound. That’s hardly the crash that some people are getting overexcited about.

worth noting that some of the replies on this thread are rather old… so might well not be correct as per today (Jan 2025)

A good point. :slightly_smiling_face:

It was €1.207 yesterday and close to €1.21 a month ago..

But it may just be a blip.

It benefits those turning euros into pounds to buy diesel though . :upside_down_face:

True, but the websites linked to should still give up to date prices.

I’m up to date :joy:

But the press are implying it’s a crash. €1,19 is good. I see Liz Truss is implying it’s as bad as it was after her mini-budget.

I fixed that for you.

What does it mean when someone posts something and then somehow manages to delete their own post?

It means that fuel in France is the same price now as it was years ago. It’s also only about 15 cents a litre more than it was when I moved to France over a decade ago. That says a lot about the rip-off culture you were so keen to tell us about.
