Disappointed in French vaccine progress

Jane - nope there were no questions or filters. It kind of fits with the published schedules that 65+ people will ( may ) be done in February.

Just tried it again for OH, and the eligibility information was in a pop up. I wasn’t asked to tick anything on that page, but at one of the next stages it popped up again and I was supposed to click on “j’accepte” which of course I couldn’t do for him.

I know they have said 65s will be done next, but at less that 500,000 to date France will be nowhere near there by 2nd Feb. I think you have chanced it… since I am obviously not 75 I will let you know if I am asked to confirm my eligibility tomorrow.

Didn’t get that window when I went on on Friday. Presumably if you don’t accept it you can’t continue so bit puzzling as to how it went through. Its no problem if there’s a future check, I can give it up.

Yes Paul,
Watching BBC SE Today it looks as if there is much inconsistency thoughout both Kent & Sussesx. Looks like my parents are (hopefully) the lucky ones.

My 87 year old mother lives in W. Sussex and hasn’t had anything yet.

This is from Another Angry Voice, there’s an article that goes with it… anyway it may go some way to explain (NOT justify) how relatively slow France are being about getting vaccination underway.

Completely agree with all of that, France needs to wake up and smell tye coffee…the only way out of this is big rapid comprehensive vaccination programme

Until a variant strain comes along that requires a new vaccine, and rolling vaccination programs like with the flu?

People had better get used to vaccinations as Covid will be with us for years.

Possibly, it is thought that by targeting the spike protein (which the virus uses to enter cells) the virus can’t mutate that too much so “resistance” to the vaccine will not be so much of a problem (the reason we need a different flu vaccination every year).

However it is not known how long immunity will last so we might need a pre-winter “booster” dose.

Police officers are driving ambulances on some occasions

I liked part of the article in the local,

"According to a new poll for Le Figaro yesterday, 58 percent of French people say that they will refuse all Covid-19 vaccines. Why a country so hypochondriac and pill-happy as France should be so anti-vaccine is a difficult question to answer.

Some reluctance to accept rapidly-created vaccines may be justified. Not all people who say they are anti-vax eventually refuse injections, as the very high take-up for innoculations of children proves.

All the same, France is now the most anti-vax - that is anti-all-types of vaccine - country in the world.

It is as if one national characteristic - hypochondria - has been overwhelmed by another - exaggerated, conspiracy-theorising suspicion of “the system” (in the same way that Covid-19 has overwhelmed the seasonal ‘flu).

In the medium term, the French allergy to vaccination is a more serious threat to the nation’s health than passing government incompetence.

To reach herd immunity to Covid-19 over 60 percent of the country needs to be vaccinated or have survived the virus.

As things stand, if the polls are to be believed, France will come nowhere near to this figure however efficient the vaccination programme becomes by late spring or summer.

The spectacle of a government stumbling apologetically to vaccinate the willing and eager is unlikely to change the minds of the unwilling and suspicious."

“Why a country so hypochondriac and pill-happy as France” , absolutely classic :yum::grin:

So, that makes it OK then?

You can make figures believe what you want if you wish.
A poll last week concluded that 55% were in favour of a vaccine. Yesterday a poll of some Ephads showed 97% of the people wanted it.
I’m in favour and hope to get my jabs ASAP, franklyI don’t care how other people may feel about it.

Macron got it right by acting quickly and firmly during the earlier stages of the pandemic so lower deaths and ICU pressures whilst Johnson did the opposite so is now reaping the implications. Johnson is now getting it right by urgent and aggressive vaccination campaign, Macron is getting it wrong by not doing so. Pity the pair can’t be cloned…(well for this but nothing else!)

What I struggle with is what other way out of this pandemic to return life and business to some degree of normality is there other than mass vaccination?
So I just can’t understand why France isn’t pursuing it with the same urgency as the UK…even fellow EU states are significantly ahead as a previous post showed.

Graham I had come home from a shift in the hospital, I was exhausted ,and couldn’t face a long discussion so I just picked up on your comment to let you know it was happening. No need to fire off at me. Of course it’s appalling that an already overwhelmed police service is having to drive ambulances but next time think before having a go

For mass vaccination France needs masses of vaccine. For whatever reasons it doesn’t.

EU has ordered enough vaccines, but having it in storage and not giving it out is the problem. Have local vaccination centers and let anyone that wants it, get it!
According to the english paper in France the next 2 month are booked by over 75s! At that speed it takes years for herd immunity.
Luckily the borders are open and when other countries have open capacities, perhaps a trip across will solve the vaccine problem and cut out the bureaucracy in France.
