French Air Traffic Control Strike - CANCELLED from 26th June 25th June – Updated at 1900 UK Local time
We have been notified that the French Air Traffic controllers strike has been cancelled, effective from tomorrow morning (26th June). We are expecting a mainly normal operating day tomorrow, with a potential for some knock-on delays due to the Europe-wide disruption in the past couple of days.
The strike is continuing tonight, and we have had to cancel several more flights this evening as the knock-on effects of the day have continued to affect our operation.
Unaccompanied daughter just left from Toulouse to Brum on a flybe flight. As at lunchtime, Flybe had only had one cancellation, and that at Roissy (Paris). TLS - Brum flight late because a) the air traffic controllers had reduced the no. of take off windows, and b) because of an exciting bomb scare in the terminal which closed down some of the check in desks (including ours, of course!). All sorted out by the bomb squad who blew up the offending unattended bag. . . I think my daughter will remember her first solo plane trip for a long time to come!
Loving France, and the French as we do; June - early July is affectionately (cough!) known as "strike season" in this household. Without wishing to seem cynical, the unions (appear to) see this time of year as being a good opportunity to flex their muscle : ie: "deal with our grievance or the summer holiday season is going to turn ugly!"....namely to avoid rioting by disgruntled Frenchmen, women and children, denied their annual holiday.
Advice might be to book a ferry, hire a car one-way, swallow hard and ask yourself the age old question: "Is my journey really necessary?"
Channel ports are not immune either; for leisure sailors or commercial shipping.
Once watched the CRS stand back while farmers ploughed-up the Champs de Mars (that green bit under the iconic tower in Paris) over diesel fuel duty. Wonder what Maggie T would have made of that!
Sorry to be a bit selfish here...wished the strike had started today, so my husband could have stayed a bit longer, as we have sooo much to do before opening up in a few weeks, but he is on his way back to good old London - so over to moi only! Hope all travelling over the next 6 days will not have too many problems... :)
The DGAC (Directorate General for Civil Aviation) met this morning and we have been informed that one of the Unions has taken the decision NOT to strike. We have been advised that we must still cancel approx 25% of our operation, including a number of flights specifically from Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Paris Orly, and Paris Charles de Gaulle.
We are continuing to do everything possible to minimise the impact to our customers. All customers on the affected flights will be informed by SMS and e-mail, with up to date information on this page of easyJet.com. For cancelled flights, all our customers will be offered a free of charge transfer to a new flight or a full refund. We strongly advise customers who wish to travel and want to rebook easyJet flights to AVOID rebooking flights for any day between 24th-30th June as there is a high likelihood of further disruption that could cause further cancellations.
Upto about 3 hours ago I could access Ryanair’s site with a list of cancelled flights for tomorrow, now I get this message " your PHP settings have been chsnged by an H Sphere administrator…" and now I cannot access that info. Can anyone offer an explanation? Is it down to Ryanair blocking this and if so, to what purpose?
24th June - 30th June We have been advised that French Air Traffic Controllers are taking Industrial Action for 6 days between 24th-30th June across France which will severely impact flights to and from France and this may also affect flights that over fly French airspace. The DGAC (Directorate General for Civil Aviation) will meet on Monday morning and we expect them to advise us to cancel 50% of our flights in and out of France.

Not looking good for my hubby coming home to pack up the gite this weekend!
True, true and true. I was almost caught when Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima was attacked by Tupac Amaru terrorists. KLM told me that they had no liability whatsoever and that I should contact my insurance company. Great, there I was in Lima and insurer in the UK, phone connections were never good and no email at that time. Just as I was leaving the desk, one of the women called me back and said that there had been clearance for the flight to leave, albeit it several hours late, so to go directly to departures. Since then I have never flown without insuring for such eventualities.
That does fall under 'extraordinary circumstances' and yes they are not obliged under EU 261/2004 to do anything. Though you would probably be entitled to rebook for free or get a penalty free refund. But as far as assistance goes, either in that case or this one, you are on your own or hopefully have insurance (purchased in advance ;-) )
