Do you have an espace particulier for your car/house insurer?

Morning all

Against all the advice, I don’t normally bother shopping around before renewing my car & home insurance. Laziness on my part.
Both insurance policies are with the Crédit Mutuel. I do not have a bank account with them.

This year I received the renewal notice for the car insurance well into December as usual and thought the premium was a bit steep.
So for once I got a couple of other quotes - from AXA and GMF.
Both ladies at AXA & GMF explained that nowadays if you want to change car insurer, the new insurer takes care of the cancellation formalities. But that you do have to obtain a relevé d’information from your existing insurer.

I have no espace particulier for the Crédit Mutuel. So I rang the branch and they said they would send it. It never arrived.

No matter. I know that - after the first year- you can terminate the policy any time. But frankly clawing back the 2025 premium is probably going to be a pain.
So I’ll leave it and be more organized next autumn.
For the future though it would be good to have an “espace particulier” with them, if only to have a messagerie so I could - for example - make a written request for the relevé.
Rather than have to send a registered letter.

They’ve told me that before they can give me an “identifiant” that would let me create an espace particulier, I need to give them a RIB. It did occur to me that they must already have one because the premiums are paid by direct debit. But again, no matter.

My question is, does this sound normal to you? To have to provide a RIB in order to be able to create an espace particulier?
Sorry to sound paranoid but my trust in a lot of these companies has been seriously eroded.

I don’t know if it’s normal to be asked for a RIB to create an account. But I’d probably be happier giving them that than a scanned copy of my passport or carte de séjour.

I’m with Lemonade for house insurance and I can do everything I’ve needed to do thus far via their app.

Thanks Gareth. It might indeed be quite convenient to have an espace particulier/app with them.
This local branch really doesn’t inspire confidence though. Even without my glasses I could see on the girl’s screen that they had a mistyped email address for us.

I have one with my local branch of CA who send me emails, insurance contracts etc and I just print stuff out I want to file. It all comes automatically once you have online access to your account and my monthly bank statements also come via that.

Thanks Shiba. After all the rude things I said about them, they actually sent me the identifiant a few minutes ago in response to my email containing the requested RIB.
I’ve created an espace particulier and in future will be able to request a relevé d’information via the messagerie if I want to take my custom elsewhere.
It could be handy for making/tracking claims too.

I have an espace particulier with Credit Mutuel but then I also have an account with them, recently opened.

My experience with Credit Agricole, through whom I have one of my isurances, has been that I needed an additional espace particulier for the insurance as well as the one for the bank. I’ve no idea if that’s what happens with Credit Mutel but they do have a lot of similar methods to Credit Agricole.

I also have an insurance though MMA and have an espace particulier with them but of course that’s different from the bank.

I have them with MMA, Axa and Mutuelle de Poitiers. It’s convent especially now that most of my insurances are paperless as the certificates are all accessible online.

Thanks Angela and David.

I’m all set up now. Interestingly, when I was complaining about not being able to get a relevé d’information from the Crédit Mut, the AXA lady said it was something the client always has to ask for. And that no insurance company allowed you to just download it from your espace particulier.

Looking at this Crédit Mut espace particulier, it appears she’s right. There are quite a few things I can download myself if needed. But not the relevé d’information.

Never mind. At least in future I’ll be able to send a message via the Messagerie. So there’ll be a written record. I think by law they then have 15 days to cough it up.
