If I could setup a page on SFN where you could go and ask car related questions which would be answered by an industry expert would you be interested?
Thanks
James

Yes
Yes good idea!
Sure. I've got car problems looming already.
Great cars. I remember having loads of fun with one on driving tests. Unfortunately it belonged to a mate of mine. If the car is to be registered & insured to your wife who will be a UK resident & you are a named driver what's the problem. Drive it over here. I'm sure it would be legal but if not somebody here will soon correct me.
Vic, it was built In 1995 around by caterham cars but still regarded as a " kit car" despite factory build, engine is a 2 ltr vauxhall 16v circa 200 bhp, presumably new at the time of build, as used in a calibra of that year but with 45 webers and other goodies, so doubt it would qualify under voitre de collection rules, it will be changed to my wife’s ownership , who is staying a uk resident and working there 70% of the year! planning to trailer it over for a few weeks at a time with me as a named driver on uk insurance rd tax and mot , trailer is a covered one so I don’t know how they are going to know when it’s been to and fro, my main concern is being accused of flaunting the law which I have no intention of doing. Am I " flaunting the law"
by doing this?
Yes think it could be very useful addition to an already great help forum etc
Yes please
What is it's "official" age? I thought that a kit car's age was that of it's engine or something like that. If that's true it might qualify as a "voiture de collection" (25 years I think) & bypass all the normal nonsense.
If they can help me get my caterham over here I’d be over the moon, it’s seems an impossible task due to it being kit built so no coc available,
Quite a lot of interest, very promising :)
Yes, please!
A very good idea James
Thanks, that has filled a few gaps in my increasing knowledge of importing cars.
Sounds good to me. I used to build & race cars but nowadays the electronics baffle me so into the garage they go.
Hi the problem I am having is that it was purchased from a uk dealer, but came direct from Germany but the French tax office don’t seem to like that. Also the dealer has only supplied half of the German carte grise
Good idea, indeed, James. Even for ex-mechanics like myself; since much that goes under the bonnet of a modern car bears little resemblance to stuff I was working on way back when. Changed a broken cam on my Boxer van this year and it took a while and a fair bit of research to get up to speed on the new fangled toothed belts driving all the gubbins; only existed on things like sporty Ford BDA engines back then.
So yes: good idea!
With out a doubt it would be handy. My truck in the garage as we speak.....
Yes pleassssse
I would as I have a problem with importing a secondhand car fro Germany via a uk dealer
