Hi, slowly but ok, thanks, I’ll be back at work mid-December if all goes to plan.
Second that, we had trouble with them 12 years ago and had to go to the Rep des Fraudes to get it sorted. You don’t need them for fibre to be installed, Free took care of it all for me after the house was finished and dealt with the bureaucracy side of things.
Sounds a bit like the first time I had a subcontractor sent out by Orange to install fibre, only for him to discover, after having traipsed through 3 fields to follow the existing POTS cable, that there was not yet a distributor box installed in the hamlet for the consumer cable to run from to the house ![]()
After the massive data breach that Free has just suffered, they’re probably not the safest bet to go with right now.
Although I bet their IT Security team will suddenly find it a lot easier to get budgets approved by the Board now ![]()
Ain’t that the truth! ![]()
I was reading the other day that the alleged online portal, through which a subscriber whose data had been hacked could file a complaint, did not come into existence. The government’s representative reporting website, and Free, appear to have shoved this under the carpet, concerned no doubt that if even a small percentage of the 19 million hacked account customers did file a complaint, the system would collapse under the weight of connections, let alone any expected post-filing handling of the requests.
There is now also some debate as to whether the data actually got sold. Allegedly, one of the hackers involved in the data swipe is now claiming that it wasn’t, although that’s not to say that others also involved have the same opinion.
I received a couple of texts this week from Orange saying that Fibre is now available. The only site I’ve looked at that shows it is Orange’s own…
Browsing through their “offers” I couldn’t believe how many different varieties of options there were. I stupidly thought it was just a question of replacing my livebox with a fibre version. The variation in cost is huge. Starting to feel a bit overwhelmed…
Look at Sosh, the Orange network but basically one option at one price which is cheaper than Orange.
Will do. Thanks!
Well Orange offered me 3 choices and I went for the cheapest. It is working fine since installation, no cuts at all, whereas the Livebox 2 it replaced was obviously knackered, it was cutting out half a dozen times a day.
So whether it was fibre over cable, or simply new box over old, I have no idea but am happy with it. ![]()
That’s good to know, David - thanks!
Have you looked on ariase.com to see if anyone else is able to provide fibre ? Personally I wouldn’t go anywhere near Orange for a few reasons.
I did, but during my tussel trying to sort out the old Livebox, they happened to have a road show just down the road and made me an offer as good if not better than I saw on there.
That’s what they did here, and one reason I wouldn’t touch them. They were telling people that Orange were the only providers and signing people up on the spot when I knew that was a lie. In fact, Orange took no part in installing the infrastructure at all as it wasn’t cost effective for them. They were quite happy to lie to people to get their business though.
I agree it was a sub-contracter who actually came and did the deed, which was easy poking it through 5 metres under the lane, and he was efficient and helpful, so what’s not to like as long as there are no problems down the line, and who can forsee them?
It was the dishonesty that I really didn’t like. I also know people who have had issues similar to @billybutcher and Orange really didn’t seem to care.
It was actually the first place I looked and it said that fibre was not currently available, even with Orange. The only place I have found availability so far is Sosh or Orange, although the dreadful Orange website changes its mind all the time ![]()
They haven’t said anything to me about being the only supplier., only that fibre is now available
Nor me. And a hundred years ago (it seems to me now) when ADSL first became the thing and I was happily tapping away to Compuserve, I went along to a bit of a do in the local salle hosted by Orange (probably France Telecom then) and, not wishing or needing to change, came away convinced and signed up.
I knew I was right to because a friend in the next village who was with me was told we haven’t got as far as you yet and, as a result, I heard his tales of woe for some time to come. ![]()
The only other place that is more authoritative is arcep.fr . There are two cartes you can use
https://maconnexioninternet.arcep.fr
This will tell you if fibre is available, from who and at what max speeds. You can put your address or just your commune in to find out.
https://cartefibre.arcep.fr/index.html
This will tell you about any upcoming or current deployment in your commune.
If it’s not shown on these then it’s not available.
