Dog-friendly rental Vienne/Charente while we look for house

Hi everyone
We are selling our house in Spain and looking to buy in the Vienne/Charente area, close as poss to Ruffec. Big logistical problem: we will be in a sell/buy chain and not sure the timings will line up. Normally not an issue but we have six dogs, all well behaved (no chewing, no messing). I know this is a long shot but if anyone knows of someone who would be prepared to rent a house to us, circa March-May next year, please let me know.
Also if anyone has a longere or barn for sale in that area early next year pls contact me!
With many thanks, Matt

You may find a dog sitter more willing to take them in. Someone who is geared up for dogs (however well behaved) than someone who is normally letting their property to guests. Then you have greater freedom to find somewhere for yourselves.

Thank you, good advice Sue but unfortunately 5 out of the 6 are elderly rescue hounds and we don’t want to stress them out. We did research kennels in case of emergency but for the 6 we’re talking close to 2,000 euros a month without food! For that we could get a 3 year rental of a very nice house - which MAY be the way we will proceed if we can’t find a 4-5 month rental. Thank you for your input, much appreciated.

You have my sympathy - we solved that issue by having the sitter come to us. By the time we came back from holiday our dog preferred the sitter to us!!!

What would be the implications of having a dog sitter look after your dogs in your house in Spain, freeing you up to come to France earlier (especially if you are looking for a longere or barn now)?

I can’t help feeling if you could decouple your dogs from the house hunting stage it might all go more smoothly for you. Just a thought.

Thanks Sue, that would be ideal but our challenge is timing, ie we’ll end up in a tent if we complete on our house in Spain but have to wait to complete in France. Conveyancing here is 6-8 weeks vs 3 or so months in France (you will know better but that’s what I’ve read)

Thanks again !

friends with 2 dogs rented this gite for 2 weeks. it is in a very quiet part of Charante/Haute Vienne/Limousin.
Owners are lovely.
would contact them directly for a longer stay rate…
but about an hours drive to Ruffec…

Gites are not allowed to stop pets coming with families. We winged it saying no pets but unless something has changed they all have to take pets.

Agreed, we winged it too by saying we had two dogs of our own (which we did) and that our land wasn’t fenced.
One cannot refuse, but also one can charge extra for pets, for the additional cleaning etc.

Thanks all for the gite input, will look into it, although I’m probably too shy and reticent to turn up with six (albeit lovely, clean, non-chewy) dogs because it’s legally ok. A bit mercenary for me! We made our bed on this…we give our time to the local animal shelter and these old dogs that need a loving home proved irresistible…we should have relocated to France in the first place. Too hot and dusty here and one of our horses now has asthma, one of many reasons we want to move to your wonderful area…
Thanks again!

Agreed I wouldnt just turn up that would be naughty. But at least you now know the position.

We found an excellent restaurant in Rodez and booked for an evening meal. When we arrived OH went in and said would it be alright if we had our dog with us. The manager (owner?) said yes, imagining no doubt some small lap dog. She was not happy when I came through the door with Vita, our hulking great Airedale and she put us at a table out in the yard by the toilets.
The food wad excellent and Vita behaved impeccably - lying at our feet throughout the entire meal.
The owner/manager did admit at the end with a smile that Vita had been very good.
