But how does he know that these are for him? He’s an intelligent dog, but surely can’t read the packet, and I’ve never made them before.

I mean, it’s not like he could have gained the impression that he’s the centre of everyone’s world and everything is for him, is it?

Either it’s for him and worth watching, or it’s not for him but a bit might fall or be given anyway, so it’s worth watching.

What is it that you’ve made for him Jane ?

Trout and spirulina friandises!

And to have them heart shaped is so good. I made some treats I wrote about in one of the cat postings and my three absolutely love them. They’re pea sized balls and we give them 2 each - we break each them into four pieces and give them usually when they’ve woken from their afternoon nap. They love them to bits.
But I hope he enjoys his treats - he’s looking at you saying ‘Mummy, this will be yummy scrummy in my tummy - thank you’

I get that endless loop on all archive.is links. I’m sure there’s a solution to it but tbh I haven’t the motivation to find it!

Can I post doggie news and not just a photo?

Our little basset had to go in for an emergency speying yesterday, otherwise she would have bleed to death. Due to her age and a heart condition, there was significant risk. We’ve just heard she’s had the op and is awake and recovering. They’ll hang on to her another night for observation. Not out of the woods yet but the significant first hurdles have been cleared. Fingers crossed.

Hope she fully recovers, got a bit of a soft spot for Bassett hounds. We had one when I was much younger, feet like dinner plates (the dog, mine are only 46)

Rona and I shared a shower this morning! I walked her first thing and coming over a ditch found we were in a field that had been sprayed with pig shit. By the time I realised she had rolled in it with great delight. And then tried to eat it all.

The only thing to do on our return was to get in the shower with her and give her a thorough shampoo. She’s the first of our Airedales to accept the hairdryer afterwards. All the others insisted on drying themselves off on the lounge furniture.

Come on now, you know we don’t believe that blaming version, you were rolling in it too, weren’t you? Apparently very good for the skin, isn’t it? :joy:

Our basset is home now, right as rain. You wouldn’t even know she’s had an op (apart from the scar obviously) as she’s herself as she ever was. The vet said she was a model patient, or French words to that effect. Made of stern and stoic stuff these bassets.

Tbh, she is one of the most chilled dogs I’ve ever known. When we first saw her in a cage at the SPA, she was sharing with a noisy young mongrel that was all over the place. Jumping at the fence and gate, barking like who knows what. Our little basset didn’t give a hoot. She just ignored her boisterous cell mate and trotted amiably out to walk with us.

You know, I used to think bassets were not the brightest of dogs. I’ve had to reform my opinion. They (well, she) just hide themselves well with a nonchalent air. Nothing seems to phase her but you can be sure she notices what’s going on. And darn me if she hasn’t got the cheekiest grin, like she’s letting you know she knows exactly what’s what but just letting it all glide by her.

What’s her name @marko ? Besides her grin, her eyes tell it all - she’s a beaut :pink_heart:

She’s Rosa. It’s her eyes that get me every time. So expressive. Her knowing, humoured cheekiness to her doe-eyed bashful (and probably contrived!) ‘gonna win you over’ Diana impersonation. She’s a darling!

She’s obviously been a mum, and probably often. The suspicion is a breeders dog, but we’ll never truly know and the SPA aren’t to be overly trusted with the back story. Apparently found wondering, either escaped or abandoned. Either way, she’s earned her right to enjoy her retirement.

I’m so glad that Rosa has found her ‘forever home’ - rather late in life perhaps but still, she’s got you to look after her and love her. Take care of her @marko - she’ll reward you with looks like that every day to melt your heart - she already done that to me :pink_heart:

I’ve a friend who adopted one of those, an Australian Shepherd. Lovely dog and he is doing what he can to make the second half of her life make up for the first.
